Seems to me that most of the clinching in Duran's lightweight bouts was initiated by his opponents because nobody could handle him inside:dunno:
I can see why Mosley lost. He looks absolutely TERRIBLE here. athetic:
Sanctioning fights for fighters who obviously have nothing left in the tank, and are nothing but human punching bags is an embarrassment to the sport. It's going to take one of them getting beat to death in the ring before something is finally done about it.
Mosley is unfortunately one of those guys in a long list of athletes who simply no nothing else, so they don't take kindly to not having that spotlight anymore. To the credit of De La Hoya, he could have bowed out sooner but he at least did it when it was CLEAR he had nothing left. Mosley really should have stopped after the Mayweather fight. Completely pointless that he then fought Pac and put in NO EFFORT.
What I find amusing is that pound for pound darling Canelo couldn't even deter a hopelessly shot Mosley who never once went into "let's be pals" mode
Agreed but what's the solution? A mandated cut off age? Some fighters last longer than others so a mandatory cut off age would be detrimental to some. Else who's to determine when a fighter is " shot"? It's a tough one.
did you see the fight? mosley isnt anything close to what he once was, but was still very competitive with the guy he faced. the guy who was highly ranked, for whatever that is worth. of course i think he should quit but if he wants to fight guys at that level he can compete. this aint like meldrick taylor hanging on at the end of his career. Id be more worried about mosleys kid getting hurt if he ever fights someone decent. he's awful
Well I won't disagree with that, but I meant pointless in that it proved nothing for Pac and nor was it a fight that was highly anticipated. Everyone knew Mosley had no chance. I'm glad I didn't pay for that shit.
i actually turned down free tickets to that fight. just watched on closed circuit, but it was worth it to see arce whip vasquez jr !
No didn't see it and quite honestly don't want to see any Mosley fight. To put it bluntly, when you were once a P4P fighter and you are losing fights to guys you would have KO'd and had Larry Merchant publicly chastised you for, it's time to go.
Exactly, commissions don't give a fuck about fighter safety and health, it's about what money they can make. When a high profile fighter dies, then and ONLY then will general public outrage be enough to finally hold these commissions accountable.
Exactly Aaron Pryor was refused a license for being legally blind in one eye by several of the big time boxing commissions... Wisconsin? No problem, just sign a waiver Somebody in Colorado though it appropriate to grant Jerry Quarry a license despite his being 47 years old, nine years removed from his most recent bout and already showing alarming signs of mental decline But it's not just small-time boxing states... After all, the 47 year old Roberto Duran, flabby, hopelessly shot and THIRTY ONE YEARS removed from his pro debut, was led to slaughter at the hands of William Joppy, a man who would've been honored to carry his jock in his great days in Las Vegas, Nevada for a legit title belt. As long as someone can make money off of an old name, they can find someone somewhere who will sell out
the problem is not the commission in this case. the commission cant prevent capable fighters from competing. sometimes they license guys who are unfit, but that is not the case here with mosley. mosley can still beat all but probably 15 or 20 welterweights on the planet. do i want to see him fight anymore? no is he anywhere near as good as he once was? no is he completely shot? hardly
He's damned close, man I agree, though, it's pretty much a wasteland, he could legit beat a lot of these dudes
