    oh fuck off

His public treatment of the man was inexcusable and despicable

  6. Nah, you fuck off.

Frazier was a cunt to Ali as well. He just couldn't articulate himself as well as Ali could and just didn't have the wit or the charm, so Ali used to bury him. Frazier should have known that if you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen.

Prime example of this was their infamous studio fight. Frazier starting talking some shit about how he put Ali in the hospital after the first fight. Ali responded calling him ignorant and pointing out that Frazier spent far longer in the hospital. Frazier didn't have the verbal skills or the wit to compete with Ali in that discussion so instead he got angry and instigated the confrontation.

That was typical. Sure, the gorilla thing before the thriller in Manila may have been a bit too far but that was the result of their back and forth rivalry in which Frazier played his part. Joe wasn't some innocent victim .

So again, fuck off yourself. ;)

Stop being retarded... Frazier helped the guy out, lobbied for him to get his license back and got stabbed in the back ... Anything he said to Ali beyond that was a reaction to being insulted and disgustingly painted as an Uncle Tom by a guy a good 5 shades lighter than him who ironically used ancient white racial stereotypes (portraying the man as a primitive ape, pushing his nose down flat while imitating him) to demean him

  9. Part of Frazier lobbying for him is that he knew he wouldn't be hailed as the people's champ until he bought Ali. So it was likely, in part, self serving.

Of course it was, he wanted the fight, it was about competition and the sport... It also wasn't insulting or publicly humiliating or a disgusting, racist attack on the man

    You sound like Ferdie Pacheco

yup Ali was fucked up with the racially charged attacks on Frazier, making Joe want to kill him when they fought, lol. those fights wouldn't have been the same if Ali didn't do what he did. not justifying it, just putting it in perspective.

no doubt. It's all part of the legend... The first and third are two of the greatest fights ever, for sure...

Some of the stuff Ali said to Frazier was indeed deplorable. The good certainly outweighs the bad though.

    Unbelievable!!

How many dudes can say that Ali visited their old high school!

Ali at my school with an unknown schoolboy {Irish media have started an ID campaign} in 1972 at my old school, Presentation College.

Frazier was bitter but not hateful and that's the settler, for me. Frazier never held it against Ali and besides,Joe made a lot of cash out of those fights.

Probably Ali's worst "sin" was "doing" business with Sese Seko, a man who shot more Africans in the run up to the 1974 fight alone than the combined Police Departments of the USA in the period 1974-today.

He would have had every right to be hateful though. At least Ali acknowledged later that he'd gone way over the line.

Frazier seemed pretty hateful of Ali, he was always taking credit for Ali being brain damaged, saying Ali had "Joe Frazier-itis" and "left hook-itis", talking about wanting to push him in the Olympic flame, comments about him in his autobiography, etc..He'd always say he forgave Ali then would say things later on that showed he clearly did not forgive him.

Not that I necessarily blame him. Ali was cruel to him. Ali certainly was far from a saint and said some awful things, but I'm pretty sad about his death. I normally don't care when celebs die, but I'm pretty bummed out about this.

I started watching boxing hardcore around 1990-91, and one of the things I did was go through a lot of Ali's old fights, so he was one of the fighters (along with Tyson, Foreman, Norris, Chavez, M. Taylor, Ruddock, Douglas, Holyfield, Toney) who got me into boxing. He was a true boxing icon. Great talent with charisma.

I don't think we'll ever see somebody reach that kind of status again. Truly a one-off.

  21. Very few true superstars like Ali in sports.

Even guys like Pele, Jordan, Carl Lewis and tiger woods didn't quite get to that level of fame and cultural impact.

That's what makes the huge difference. That said even without the political side to him I think he'd still be considered ahead of those guys because of his personality.

My godfather met him once with a bunch of his friends... I can't remember the exact circumstance, but it was in the city sometime in the early 70s and he said it was great, Ali was clowning around with them, putting on a show
