Barrera/Morales I ... Round 5 <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/VEsEG4X7v8g" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
That's why I started the thread... It's an interesting round to score... I could literally see 10-9 for either guy or an even round... I'm just curious to see what people scored One of the greatest fights ever, surely
I scored it for Morales. The way you scored this round is the way you scored the fight. Morales' offensive lasted far longer than Barrera's. Barrera came on at the end and nailed morales but it wasn't enough to overturn everything morales did in the first 2 mins
Barrera won the fight clear as day... In 16 years, I have yet to see a compelling argument for a draw, much less a Morales victory I had Barrera winning all three fights with the second one the closest
I scored it for Morales. I know I'm in the minority but I thought he won the fight by a hair. 2nd fight I had for Barrera in another close affair. 3rd fight for Barrera as well.
1st fight- 7-5 barrera 2nd fight 8-4 morales 3rd fight- 6-6 morales wins the most rounds and was clearly the more legendary warrior
I'd score it for Morales, but I could see an argument for a draw. I think they don't score enought rounds as draw, and think it is one of the main reason we have so much controversial decision
i don't know if i felt this way at the time or not, but i felt morales clearly won that round. a couple of barrera's attacks were dramatic, but only because they followed fairly sustained onslaughts from morales.
I actually scored the round even, something I seldom do Morales threw and landed more, but the best shots were landed by Barrera who stunned him in the round... I couldn't make up my mind so I called it even The fight? Barrera won it by landing the better shots throughout the fight He also won the other two fights, thus proving himself superior to that Franz Kafka looking stupid motherfucker Morales
While I agree and have said so many times before I don't necessarily think it would create less controversial decisions. I think one could easily argue it could cause more. To me even rounds should be scored when neither man assert themselves. The primary example is the first round or two in big fights when both guys are gauging distance, trying to figure each other out and not committing. Usually the excuse to score a round in favor of one vs the other is because of what is perceived going "more the way they wanted it to". Knowing a fighter's style and history is something for analysts and commenters to bring up. It should not be criteria used by judges under the guise of ring generalship. Back to the thread topic I see it as a Morales round but it shouldn't be too difficult to understand why a lot of people would score it for Barrera, especially when watching it live.
I remember scoring it for Barrera at the time but I was probably being biased as I remember really wanting him to win. MAB definitely won the fight though. The first two fights went to the wrong fighter.
I believe that round has looked more favourable for Barrera at ringside because of the bigger shots, whereas TV favors the busier Morales
A similar round to score is the first round between Trinidad and Mayorga ( but it doesn't warrant its own thread). It was all mayorga for the first 2+ mins and then Tito noticeably hurt him in the final 45 seconds (Set up by the two free shots to the chin mayorga let him have). Most scored that round for Tito I suspect because of the finish but Mayorga won most of that round in terms of punches thrown and landed
