The way they make this good and potentially keep the series going is to have the aliens win

The first film is one of my guilty pleasure films. It's absolute nonsense - America defeats a vastly technologically superior enemy with some dubious speeches and Windows 95 - but I still watch it every time it's on TV. As a result, I'm actually quite looking forward to seeing if the sequel is any good.

I'm not running to the movie theater to watch this one.

  8. BOSS

    BOSS TBD

He whom they call the one named BOSS can't stand Will Smith.

P.s He whom they call the one named BOSS thinks the trailer looks like garbage and this movie itself looks like garbage as well.

Of course it looks like garbage. It's a sequel to an absolutely garbage alien invasion film. That's not the point.

I think this will be incredibly dumb.

  19. It will exceed Roland Emmerich´s entire back-catalogue as such...and will raise the ´shit-movie-benchmark´ that even Micheal Bay cannot reach.

Even the original ID4 is pretty dated at this point.

This isn't like the Jurassic Park/Jurassic World situation. The original Jurassic Park still is and will always be an awesome movie.

ID4 was cool and fun in the 90s, but you watch it now and realize it's pretty fuckin stupid.

It was fucking stupid at the time. An entire alien fleet was brought down by a bit of malware downloaded from Windows 95 on a floppy disk

This looks terrible. Properly, utterly awful. I've already bought tickets.

    Which is EXACTLY my point.

Society is computer proficient in 2016. It's become our way of life. So OBVIOUSLY ID4 looks fucking retarded now.

In 1996 the mainstream didn't know a GODDAMN thing about computers, unless you actually worked in the industry. So to the layman in 96, the concept was believable.

I get the point, but it was still pretty obviously trash in 1996 as well. I had the internet in 1996 - it wasn't as backward back then as you remember (although it was that hilarious AOL, phone-line in the wall type of internet).

You must be old. Did you have napster in 1996?

It was never a "good" movie, even then. My point is, in the 90s it was least fun to watch given the CGI was cutting edge.... at the time.

Now the CGI is dated, so the movie isn't even fun anymore.

I was 15 in 1996. We learned about the interweb at school and I was always a bit of a computer geek, so I insisted trying to get my shitty little 486 hooked up to the phone socket. I thought the whole thing was amazing, despite the fact that, unquestionably looking back, it was fucking rubbish.

  27. You think that's bad, try watching superman 3 nowadays. Lol

Some action movies will NEVER age, they'll be great forever. Jaws, Terminator, T2, Predator, Jurassic Park, those are five examples.

Others, like ID4 and Superman III, are laughably bad now.

  29. meetthefeebles

    meetthefeebles Drunken Geordie Bastard

IMO T2 has aged pretty badly. The incredible baddie graphics look like shit now. However, the others haven't aged at all.

I actually think you are being a bit harsh on ID4's CGI. It's dated but not that badly IMO. Sci-fi films almost always date badly, as a trope, anyway (there are exceptions). Look at how old Alien looks nowadays, for example. The sets and effects have aged terribly (though it is still an awesome film).

To be fair, Predator's graphics aren't the best anymore either. But the movie is still awesome and timeless.

As for ID4, I'll watch it anyday over Avatar, I'll say that!
