Plenty of Heavyweights Apply...Frazier, Foreman, Bruno, etc., but What About Brothers BELOW Heavyweight???... Hagler...Frank "the Animal" Fletcher...Mugabi... Others???... REED:mj:
Tackie. Hopkins and Hagler were athletic. Just because they were not atheltic freak a la RJ, doesnt means they were not athletic
Tackie for Sure... agREED on Hopkins Too...Though NEVER on the Level of Floyd's Pull Counter or ANY Single Punch in Roy's Arsenal, Bernard's LEAD Right Hand was Among his MOST Effective Weapons, Even as he Aged... BHOP Wasn't FREAKISHLY AFFletic, but that Trait was APPARENT in his Bouts w/Non Athletic Foes like Trinidad, for Example...Having Said That, Bernard was a LOT More AFFletic than Hagler, in REED's Opinion...Ray Leonard Beat Hagler PRIMARILY Because he was Always MORE AFFletic... REED:hammert:
yeah, but Hagler was old at the time and SRL had freak athleticism. By the way he moved in the ring against Briscoe, you can see Hagler was a very athletic dude. Well, there you have another one that fits the bill. Briscoe
Granted, Hagler was Aged, but Leonard HADN'T Fought in 3 Years Either...Yet he BEAT Hagler on the Strength of TIMELY Movement and Shoeshine, Handspeed Oriented, 30 Second Flurries... Hagler Just WASN'T AFFletic, in REED's Opinion...Sure, he was More AFFletic than Bennie Briscoe, but Even Earnie Shavers was ARGUABLY More AFFletic than Briscoe, Despite Being 40-50lbs Heavier AND a Known Plodder Himself... REED:hammert:
No, Archie Moore WASN'T AFFletic @ All, Really... He Got By on RING SMARTS and 2 Fisted POWER...He Had NO Answer for Floyd Patterson's AFFleticism and Even Rocky Marciano Was Within the "Ol Mongoose's" Realm, AFFletically... REED:hammert:
What is the definition of "affletic"? Guys like Trinidad and Hagler may not be great basketball or soccer players but as boxers they seemed really talented....
Hagler doesn't belong here at all. Early 80's Hagler was well above average athletic. Just because he wasn't an athletic freak like Jones or Leonard doesn't mean he was a slug. Anyway, the easier answer to this question is Jeff Lacy.
Affleticism/talent is basically speed, strength, reflexes and coordination. Lacy was strong and not that slow but his reflexes and coordination were pretty average.
Deontay Wilder is a great athlete but as a boxer he looks far from it...boxing can make bricks out of the most athletic guys, and make the least athletic guys, like Lyle Alzado, seem athletically competent ::
I've never heard reflexes and coordination were considered parts of athleticism. Someone needs to present a definition with source. These affletic threads seem to be going in the hippety hoopy direction we had were we mixed things up with speed and flashiness.
If Hopkins is considered non athletic then I obviously don't know what athleticism is. I mean he may not be a speedster like Jones and Judah, but the guy was light on his feet, had great upper body movement, quick reflexes and was a fluid and elegant mover.
well if anything that makes a good boxer can be part of athleticism then we wouldn't have to differentiate between good and bad athletes...
Many black heavyweights actually: Burt Cooper and some of those 80s heavyweights before Tyson cleaned out the division and ruled with an iron fist in the new regime
