Pets set record opening at the box office

The Secret Life of Pets from Illumination Studios (Minions) showed again why that studio is Disney Animation & Pixar's greatest rival: it just broke Pixar's record of best opening by an original animation film. With its $103.1 million debut it left in the dust Pixar's Inside Out $92.1 record from last year. 'Pets' also becomes the sixth 2016 film that debuts over $100 million and also is now the sixth animated film that debuts over that same amount. Not bad for a $75 million budget film (compare that to Disney's budgets).

Holding firmly in the second spot is The Legend of Tarzan which took $20.6 million or just a mere 46% drop which means that word of mouth has been good for the Tarzan film which has grossed so far $81.4 million domestically. However these numbers are not enough for the costly reboot and its international numbers have been lukewarm. To show profit the film needs to make at least over $360 million. So far its worldwide numbers is a shy $135 million. Don't expect a sequel any time soon.

Dropping to the third spot is the former three weeks champ Finding Dory which added $20.3 million to its arks and in the process has become 2016 highest grossing film of the year with a domestic cume of $422.5 million, besting the $406 million of Captain America: Civil War.


Debuting in the fourth spot is Zack Efron's newest shirtless film Mike & Dave Need Wedding Dates which did better than expected with $16 million.

and finally The Purge: Election Year took the fifth spot with $11 million.

 

ok Dori breaks a record now this comes out to lesser numbers still breaks a record. We have some 3 million categories so every other weekend records are broken. Next week we will see the best opening by a fantasy film about ghosts were the all male main cast is replaced with females. :wack:
