Is M. Night in the midst of a mini-comeback?

 

I abandoned all hope for Shamylan when that annoying little white boy started rapping in The Visit.

 

Didn´t even click on the trailer. Just saw the ´M. Knight´ bit and that´s all you need to know... ::

 

He struck gold with Sixth Sense. Signs was okay,nothing special. Everything else he's done has been shit.

 

Yeah, I forgot about that. Kid was pretty bad. Otherwise, the movie itself was watchable.

 

"Unbreakable" and "The Village" were good.

 

I'm not a fan of McAvoy, but this looks like possible Oscar bait for him. Hollywood loves split personality characters.

 

That's what was so frustrating about it.

 

"Sybil" meets Buffalo Bill from 'Silence of The Lambs'.

 

The plants made him do it.

 

The Village and everything that followed were pretty bad. ::

Watched this last night - its good, but not as good as everyone is making out.
McAvoy is really the standout as usual.

Disagreed. I think it was excellent.

 

It´s still M. Knight Shayamallyamallan though and if I didnt know that and viewed it as a pure unknown ´B´ Movie - Id rate it higher...
It s a high-concept idea for sure, but the script is really grating at times...and a times it dragged.

I´ll probably give it another run tonight or tomorrow....

 

Split M. Night Shyamalan latest film is a return to critical & box office gold that is both a success and a letdown. First the performance of James McAVoy is mesmerizing and the female lead is solid too, but unfortunately the attempts at 'terror" is so formulaic and predictable it left me cold in my seat. Also the plot has many holes that left me wondering if the director didn't have final cut say as many subplots were left hanging with no further explanation. Kudos to Shyamalan for having the token black actress, Jessica Sula, go almost immediately in bikini panties as her biggest asset were her mad curves. There were some dumb moments that while cliche in horror films, were just out of place in this better written film and an insult to the audience intelligence. As for the 'surprise' twist ending, well not every caught that except hardcore Night fans. If it is the promise of a sequel 'Night Expanded Cinematic Universe' I am interested. If nothing is done, then this was just bait that wasn't that effective. Good film, but more worth a rental than a movie going experience. 6.7/10

Jessica Sula

 

Just saw it yesterday. I thought it was good. Jessica Sula in her panties was a nice scene too.

I didn’t care too much for the direction it took in the last half hour or so, but it was still a creepy and intense movie.

It makes me more interested in learning about Dissociative Identity Disorder, which is controversial and debated. The movie received its share of criticism for not accurately portraying it. Naturally it’s more practical for Hollywood to have characters with DID as demented murderers than to make depressing movies focusing little kids creating alters to deal with abuse.

 

Yeah, just caught it to. Liked it quite a bit. Had a bit of a cleaner look and slicker editing to it then most M. Night movies. If I didn't KNOW he directed it (outside of the one stupid cameo of himself he likes to insert in all his movies), I might not have guessed it.

McAvoy was excellent, the main girl was very good, while the other two were just typical fillers for a story like this.

Surprised they were able to delve into the child abuse angle of the story as deeply as they did, given the PG-13 rating.

Mixed feelings about the Easter egg at the very end. I couldn't tell if they were seriously setting that up, or if M. Night was shitting on the way the Comic Book Movie universe panders to fans at the end of their movies.

We keep saying 'the main girl was good'. Well, her name is Anya Taylor-Joy who was so great in "The Witch" and she is very talented and hawt.

 

Unbreakable was his best movie. The rest, including Sixth Sense, are piles of steaming shit.

 

The village was god awful.
