    If this movie underperforms in China I will blame fucking George Takei and his LGBT agenda: he pushed and succeeded in making the character Hikaru Sulu (played by straight actor John Cho) a married gay man in this film. If conservative Chinese reviewers bash the film based on 'they made the only Chinese actor gay' then is all Takei's fault! :pissed:

    No he didn't. He said it went against Roddenberry's vision to make Sulu gay.

    I stand corrected. You are right. Takei denied it was his idea.

    Star Trek Beyond

    First 15 mins in:
    * Kirk battles little troll-Gremlin-lion type things
    * Spock looks bizarrely camp and different image to first two movies
    * Kirk looks weird with some emo-type haircut
    * Sulu in Elton John+David Furnish-with-small-child type-situ

    Can´t wait to see how the rest of this movie pans out....

    Yeah. I thought it looked as terrible a start to a movie that I expected.
    The Enterprise being smashed was the final straw after a weird opening 30 mins.

    To be fair, Kirk, Spock and Bones are cool...the actors who play them are spot-on....

    ...but the villain was shit, there was no character development (as with the first two movies), a generic ultimate weapon-that-kills-everything, the Spock / Uhura on-off relationship was not investigated, there was wayyyyy too much action which never let up...this movie was just Fast & Furious In Space written by a couple of cunts (Pegg & Frost)

    And fuck me, doesnt it show: a massive 56% box-office drop in two weeks.

    6/10

    I respect your opinions as I agree with most of it: the interaction between the Enterprise trio, Kirk, Spock & McCoy, was priceless and a throwback to the old tv series. Yeah, Idris Elba was criminally underused and had less development than any previous Trek villain (even though there were some nice videos about his past and how he became Krall). The rehashed plot was its weakest part, but I think it was executed nicely, particularly the action scenes which were top notch with a touch of humor which elevated it from the ultra serious somber mood of 'Into Darkness'. I also did get the impression that the Spock/Uhura relationship was probably left in the cutting room floor. But I did enjoyed it a lot wish it could have done better as I want to see these characters in yet another film, hopefully a smaller scale one that emphasis more into space exploration and characters camaraderie than in fast paced action sequence, as Star Trek never was about action, but about mind challenging ideas and sense of wonder.

    well the film might have bombed, but the cast apparently had a blast during filming breaks.
