marvel sold them to keep the company from failing.

  2. Yeah Fox damaged the FF reputation forever. Even if Marvel acquired the rights to those characters, no one would want to see it. Shame.

I believe Marvel should keep things a bit more modest. When you start getting to guys like Galactus, Silver Surfer or the Beyonder I think it will detract from the story because these guys are mostly space bound and just way too powerful. I think it will lead to a distracting story that won't flow well. I think Marvel should stick to earth (Guardians OTG excluded of course) and more modest characters and powers. Even Apocalypse in the X-Men film felt too powerful and distracting because conventional powers just couldn't hurt him.

  4. Nah, power isn't the problem, it's how you handle it. Thor and Odin are superpowerful ( and Loki), and space bound, but that didn't detract from the films.

In the early 90's Marvel Comic Group was facing bankruptcy and in an attempt to remain afloat they started selling the movie rights of most of their more popular characters. At that time Stan Lee opposed to this and was shown the door, so he went on and started his own Stan Lee Productions and sued Marvel for selling his creations. Meanwhile the jerks running Marvel sold the rights of Spider-Man to SONY, Fantastic Four to Roger Corman's Concord-New Horizons company, Captain America, the Punisher, Daredevil, Hulk, etc. The sad thing is that they not only sold the characters to different studios, they sold them CHEAP, not once, not twice, but many times. This created a mess of copyrights, different companies suing each other. When the superhero properties began to be hot again (thanks to FOX 'X-MEN'), major studios bought the rights from those lower budgeted companies and secured the rights. That is how FOX was able to get not only the X-Men, but Daredevil and Fantastic Four, Universal got the Hulk, etc. Once Marvel got its act straight, fired those accountant jerks that wanted to sell even the office furniture, got Avid Arad on board, made peace with Stan Lee and was able to regain some of its titles back via inactivity from those companies that went bankrupt, then negotiated with the big studios to get a small slice of the pie and studio credit for Spidey & X-Men, then they started to create their own studio. Once Kevin Feige got on board the wheels started moving, but still some of its biggest titles, like Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, X-Men & Hulk remained in other studio's hands. They were able to get Daredevil back and recently The Punisher. I doubt they will ever get FF back. The rights to that comicbook is plentiful of so many other iconic popular characters (like Galactus, Mephisto, Silver Surfer, the Watcher, Namor the Submariner etc) that FOX will never let it go back to Marvel. They could negotiate a deal like SONY did with Spider-Man, though.

  6. Good popst panchy. I never knew any of them.
Given Marvel´s success, its a bit shit that those main characters will probably never see the light of day...that is...in a decently-made movie.

  7. Great information Panchy.

I never knew the history. Xmen is definitely the film that started this superhero craze. That was a classic ( as was the sequel). First two Spider-Man films were great too.

  8. Spider-Man II was on TV last night and I thought it was okay.
Just didnt like the unmasking of the hero and as always, the ugly Kirsten ´Where Are They Now?´Dunst was in it.

  9. Dunst is plain and annoying but she's very sexy!

I would give blade that credit. After Blade, there was talk of Snipes staring in black Panther, that was put on hold and the x-men franchise started up.

Most people don't know Blade is a comics character. Even after watching the movie.

Thor is really powerful but even then he's mostly just super strong and can control lightening so no it's not distracting. Guys like Beyonder, and Galactus and to a smaller extent the Silver Surfer have powers that go far beyond just strength and flying and shooting lasers and what not. If they really get into those characters it could become distracting I think.

  15. By that logic, its going to be interesting to see what happens with Thanos in the upcoming Infinity War.

Blade was a moderate hit ($70 million) and did not spawned any resurgence interest in superhero films, BUT gave a boost to Vampire action movies like Underworld & Van Helsing and other supernatural comicbooks like HellBoy. It was the first 'Marvel' film to make money, particularly for it being R-rated, but it was 20th Century Fox X-Men success that got SONY to greenlight Spider-Man and the megasuccess of that one opened the doors wide open for big budget superhero films.

I agree that x-men did that, but it was blade that made the studios take the chance on x-men.

  21. Yup, but it will be praised by the Disney paid critics as usual. I feel your pain brother. DC is where it's at.

All that stuff in Inception was lifted from the Doctor Strange comicbooks, Einstein!:fig: That Nolan movie was a Doctor Strange story without its main character. It is like when V, AlieNation & Independence Day borrowed heavily concepts from Arthur C. Clarke's 'Childhood's End' and when finally the book made into a tv miniseries some idiots were calling it 'unoriginal'. :Ant: Heck, Nolan ripped half of 'Doctor Strange' origins in Batman Begins then he came back for more with Inception . He is lucky Marvel never sue him!

Oh and this movie is now being released on October 25 and not on November! :dan2:

And is interesting that Marvel confirmed today that Doctor Strange will appear in Infinity War as in the comicbook 'Infinity Gauntlet' he is the key character that could stop Thanos.

  26. See, this is why Marvel are so good at cross-polinating characters.
    a) they're relevant to the plot
    b) they're cool

Avengers: Infinity War is going to be the nail in DCU's coffin....
