Is there a better actor than Denzel Washington?

Do you know of any? Name them. Denzel is the best actor that I have ever seen.

 

There are many actors better than him.

 

DeNiro and Pacino are still alive. Edward Norton is a real chameleon. Heck, even Steve Buscemi is better than Denzel as he can do any genre convincingly!

However, you can make a strong case for Denzel being the most charismatic actor of all time.

It's fashionable to praise character actors but there's a reason Gary Oldman is Gary Oldman and Denzel is Denzel. I love me some Gary Oldman but he has his place on the big screen.

His performances in 'The Usual Suspects', "Seven', "Glengarry Glen Ross', "American Beauty", "House of Cards" just to name a few.

 

I'd put Denzel's best performances up against those any day of the week.

Crimson Tide, Malcolm X, Training Day, Glory, The hurricane, Philadelphia, Man on Fire and the list goes on

 

Out of that bunch I'll take only 'The Hurricane' as a great performance that made me forget I was watching Denzel. All the others are typical Denzel playing himself (yes, even Malcom X!).

The criticism id lay at denzel is that ive never seen him in a role that showed any real vulnerability...every character basically exudes dignity or power or extreme competence, it'd be interesting to see him play against type.

 

He played a quadriplegic in the Bone collector, but I guess you can still argue that his character had dignity.

In the film, Flight, he was a struggling alcoholic; competence yes but a real vulnerability also.
