I had just came on here to start this thread and you beat me to it.

Anyway the answer is yes. Yes I'm watching and it's my new favorite show (after GOTs of course). This thing has The Wire potential of how much I'll like it and the show had me in the first minute. Anyone who hasn't watched it yet just check out the first five minutes and if you're not sold then just keep watching til the end, and if you're still not sold...well fuck you because you don't know good.

Oh yeah if you have a dislike of hood films or tv shows then don't bother and fuck you too for having something against hood films.

Shit, I wouldn't even classify it in the "Hood" genre, as you call it. It's set in the hood, but doesn't speak in the same generalities.

It almost has a Coen Brothers kind of feel to it. Like somewhere between "Raising Arizona", "Millers Crossing" and Spike Lee's "Do The Right Thing"....with Donald Glover playing the Spike Lee/Woody Allen loser type character everybody else bounces off of.

Fuck, pressures on. I may have been a bit ridiculous in my comparisons on 2nd thought.

1st episode probably the weakest. Definitely gets better as it goes on. It's only a half hour show, so you could probably binge watch the 1st four episodes in under 90 minutes.

  8. One review of this show reported: "One of the distinct issues nagging this honest attempt to recreate what it’s like to be black in modern America"

    Comedy timing.

What? This isn't fucking "Black-ish", or "Modern Family". There's no punch-lines. It's not a sitcom and it's too highly stylized to be an attempt to recreate anything other then it's creators vision of certain things through a slightly absurdist lens.

Probably the one show I can think of that's on right now, that would be the closest comparison to this, would be "Louis".

It's not a great comparison, but it's a similar mix of comedy, real life situations, and the absurd.

Of course they called them "naggers" right there in the review. That is some subliminal New Yorker critic bullshit. :nono:

It's called "Atlanta", get with the program sunshine.

  13. "what it’s like to be black in modern America"

So I said, "why not ask some of those folks in Charlotte or Tulsa? THEY MIGHT BE ABLE TO GIVE YOU AN HONEST OPINION"

    They wouldn't know either.

  15. Apparantly, they could be anywhere...car, diner, work, home....and yet still be at risk at being shot by police.

Thats what I heard, so yeah, kind of gives an impression of what its like, or they feel its like.

Tough gig. Give a shit.

Maybe David Gordon Green is a better comparison then the Coen Brothers.

  23. How about shut-the-fuck-up and dont compare it to anything cos its vastly overrated?
Ask yourself why cops are shooting blacks.......then watch ´Atlanta´and you´ll know why.

I should have just said it has blecks in it and left it at that.

  26. Well, from over-selling with ´Its like the fucking Coen Cunts´ (another overrated pair of speccy-logic-box-wankers, no question) and ending up with ´its got nikkas in it´.....then yeah, you score high.

Move along, nothing more to see here.

It sort of reminds me of The louis ck show and master of none.

  28. ´Entourage´ for Blacks.

Only people who will like this show are:
    a) Black
    b) White-Liberal

Seriously, you guys who rate this show are fucking morons.

But lets face it...look who started the thread....
