Foster does. Foster, just like he did Tiger, would control Qawi from the outside with the jab. And when Qawi presses the issue, he'd be running power he'd stay clear off. Spinks was able to put enough hurt on Qawi to make him somewhat gunshy. Foster would expand on that, and put more hurt on Qawi. Really, the better question is Foster vs Spinks.
I don't think that Tiger is a good comparaison to Qawi, since Qawi is a lot more slick and crafty. And Spinks was a lot more technically sound than Foster, who did a lot of mistake, and was sometime very sloppy. Personally, I'd pick Qawi, but reluctantly, cause I think he'd be able to get inside and do his thing. But that depend on him getting past the jab, cause if he's not able to do it, he gets a vicious beating
Trying to get inside on Bob Foster means having to withstand possibly the single most potent punch in boxing history, P4P. Qawi was tough as fucking nails, but if there's ANYBODY can could get him outta there if they caught him right, it's Foster. But it's a misconception that Foster ONLY had the hook. His right hand was lethal also. He could hurt Qawi with either hand to keep him honest, while controlling the fight with his jab.
I tend to think extremely highly of Bob Foster at 175. To me, he'd defeat any light heavy of the last 40 years - that includes Spinks and Roy.
Foster is similar to Pryor in that his resume isn't the stuff of legends. Yet both were so dominant that I feel very highly of them in a H2H sense.
Qawi's Waaaaaaaaaaaaaay Tooooooooooo SHORT and/or Foster's Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay Tooooooooooo TALL...However You Want to Characterize It.... Foster Had MUCH Better Footwork and was All Around More ATHLETIC than Michael Spinks Ever Was, Yet Spinks was Able to Effectively Stick and Move his Way to a Victory...Foster Does Likewise, Even More Definitively.... Qawi DIDN'T Hit Hard Enough to Take Foster Out and he's Simply Giving Away Tooooo MUCH Length Here....Foster Hit Hard Enough to Hurt ANY Man, Qawi Included, but w/Qawi Constantly Bobbing and Weaving 3 Feet from the Ground, How CLEANLY Would Foster's 6'3-6'4 Ass Hit Him???... ODD Pairing, in Terms of Physical Stature and an AWKWARD, Yet 1-Sided Fight, Similar to Spinks-Qawi... REED:hammert:
Exactly. Qawi WOULD be badly hurt in this fight, I have no doubt. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say he lasts the distance. BUT.... any light heavyweight THAT EVER LIVED gets caught with the left hook that took out Tiger and Quarry, and they go.
That's true, But most elite fighters would not get caught by these kind of punches. Foster was a very wide puncher. Though, I'm Not saing that Foster woldn't win against the elite, cause he was more than just a puncher.
Very wide puncher? Ummm.... no. He wasn't. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8_RKrws5c4 ^^^Foster's peak performance right here. The man was a fucking beast.
He wasn't a mayorga or a chino, but he was a rather wide puncher, especillay with the left hook, which he often started from the hips. For the record, I really like Foster, and I think he was a tremendous fighter, but he also had a lot of flaws. His tendancy to return the jab low makes me wonder how he would fare against elite lhw.
Against which elite light heavy in particular? Ezzard Charles is the consensus goat at 175, and yes, I'd have to favor him over Foster. I'm not very confident in favoring any other lightheavy over Foster. And I'm saying this as tied with REED as the biggest Roy fan on the forum.
I think the five BEST light heavies of all time are: Charles Foster Spinks Moore Jones Much is debatable in how they fare against each other h2h.
I didn't watch much of Foster, but from what I've seen, Spinks footwork was much much better. I can,t see Foster moving around Qawi for 15 (or even 12) rounds. He'd have to hurt him and keep him at the end of his jab to win.
Qawi chin was rock. He'd have to land a bomb on him to hurt him. Not saying it's impossible, but I don't think it's a foregone conclusion
How was Pryor dominant? He got dropped and rocked in almost every title fight he had and most of them were against local prospects that never accomplished anything.
Foster hurt Frazier briefly when they fought. To hurt Frazier, call me old fashioned, he must have been able to hit him. I can't see Foster not being able to hit Qawi.
Exactly. I'm THE biggest Qawi fan on this board, and this is the first time I'll say Qawi is being overrated. The man had a solid defense, but he got hit. Saad nailed him with some good shots in their first fight, and Qawi took them smiling. But Saad wasn't Bob Foster.
