People tend to overrate the amount of one-punch knock-outs. BothTyson and Lewis had like three of them, that is, against even semi-credible opponents

You can basically count Tyson-Berbick as a one-punch KO. Berbick had already been dropped, and hurt, but it was one left hook that finished him off and left him falling up and down like a drunk. Berbick was known to for having an excellent chin.

He KO'd Tubbs with one punch.

    KO'd Spinks with one punch.

KO'd Carl Williams with one punch.

BASICALLY KO'd Terrell Biggs with one punch.

KO'd Henry Tillman with one punch.

    KO'd Botha with one punch.

    Yup... that's more than 3.

Tyson had more than three,ON top of my head: Botha, Etienne, Tillman, Frazier.

Rethinking about it, it is indeed true that mikey might be a harder puncher than lennox

Yeah, Frazier was basically out cold from the first uppercut. The follow-up was just window dressing.

I think I've convinced myself that Mike hit harder than Lewis as well. There's just certain Lewis performances that I can't see the results being the same if it was Mike.

For instance, Lewis hitting Mercer with everything but the sink and Mercer not blinking. We'll never know for sure, but I feel if Tyson was hitting Mercer that often that Ray would have been fucked.

Also, there's NOBODY on Earth that can convince me that mohawk bum Mavoric would have gone the distance with a young Tyson.

Tyson couldn't put a dent in Holyfield bar the very beginning of the first round of the first fight. Lewis had him trying to protect his face with his leg.

Spinks went down twice and was clearly dazed after the first. Biggs took beating for several rounds. And I am not sure if we can count Etienne and Tillman as credible.

If "basically" knockouts count, Lewis has Rahman, Ruddock, Grant (everything was cosmetic after the first), Butler etc.

Also, Mavrovic took indeed Lewis' clean shots for 12 rounds, something even Mike wasn't able to do and even old Tyson had a tremendous chin. I can't count that fight against Lewis.

Overall, I do agree with you that Tyson was the more dangerous fighter. Lewis might have punched harder in absolute sense, but it is difficult to know for sure.

I just don't think one-punch KOs tell the story. Lewis almost knocked Botha over with a harmless-looking right in the first and knocked Morrison down with every shot, yet 1-punch KOs don't show it. Tyson downed Bruno with single shots too

Yeah if we hadn't seen Lewis' power, we wouldn't think much of his power

My thoughts exactly. The previous body shot KD had nothing to with the right hand that left him unconscious.

His body was clearly hurting and he walked to Tyson in a crouch, practically offering his chin to Mike as he tried to protect his body. Without the KD Tyson wouldn't have gotten such a free shot that would KO anyone.

As it is, one-punch KOs are difficult to define, since there usually is some type of fatigue or set-up that leads to them.

With one shot? Lewis... Tyson had a greater arsenal of KO punches, but with one single shot, I have to say Lewis, though obviously it is close

No Fighter in History Threw Quick AND Hard, Simultaneously, Like Mike Tyson...The QUICKER Guys Didn't Punch Nearly as Hard, and the FEW Harder Punching Guys Didn't Unleash their Hands Nearly as Quickly...

The SOUND of his Fists Banging the Bag is Nearly as Impressive as the Handspeed...Like Rapid Fire GUNshots...

So are we saying Tyson wasn't 'heavy-handed' but more a case of 'speed kills'?

(I'm referencing a thread someone posted a while back about Heavy-hands v Fast-hands with KOs)

    REED's Thinking BOTH...

A Heavy Handed Guy WITH Blazing Speed...The Punches Got There Rapidly AND Thudded Upon Impact...Mike DIDN'T Require Many Shots to Get a Guy OUT of There...He was Heavy Handed...

    He was CLEARLY both.

Even as an old, washed up man who no longer possessed his legendary handspeed, he was STILL extremely dangerous if he landed flush. So it wasn't JUST the speed. The man had extremely freakish raw power.

It was the raw power COMBINED with the unbelievable handspeed that made him arguably the most devastating offensive force the sport's ever seen.

No matter how many times I watch clips of a young Tyson hitting the heavy bag, it's always the same reaction... "Jesus H. Christ..."

Never ever will we see a heavyweight talent like him again.

Enjoy these fuckin clowns AJ, Fury, and Wilder....

I am an AJ fan, but yeah he's fortunate that there isn't a Tyson in this era.

But I could also say that for most heavyweights. Lewis and Holy never mixed it up with a PRIME Tyson. And neither of the Klitschkos did either.

The only heavyweight I give a legit chance of beating a pre-exile Ali would be the one and only IRON MIKE.
