Has Thurman showed us enough to favor him against a guy like Campas, who though not a world beater, is a level above guys like Karass, Guerrero, and probably better than Porter also. What do we say?
Thurman should win but I wouldn't pick him with any confidence. His boxing is a little labored and inconsistent and he can obviously be hurt to the body.
I think Campas woulda beaten the shit outta Porter. I'm siding with Terp for once. I'd pick Thurman, but not with confidence.
Thurman isn't that fast or mobile. He had trouble staying away from Porter, compared to Brook who beat Porter with little issue and was able to avoid Porter's wild swings. Would come down to how well Thurman takes Campas' punch IMO.
Wow, people are either underrating Thurman big time, or overrating Campas big time. The dude wasn't much more than a punching bag
This.......Campas always got smashed when he moved up in competition...but IMO Thurman is not on the level of Trinidad, Vargas, or the POWER Punching pothead... So Thurman should win...but it's not a given...Thurman will see someone he can hit easily, and get more aggressive and expose himself to gettign caught...
I think you're OVERRATING Thurman to think it's a given. Campas wasn't beaten by chumps. His first three losses came to guys named Trinidad, Lopez, and Vargas. Thurman IMO wouldn't see the later rounds against any of those three. Campas was heavy handed, and dug the body well. He was A LOT better than Diego Chaves, and Chaves gave Thurman Hell til Thurman caught him with that hook to the body. I repeat, him beating Campas is NOT a given. Thurman doesn't have the skills and strength of Vargas, doesn't have the power of Lopez, and doesn't have a fraction of the talent of Trinidad. I could envision a scenario where Campas walks Thurman down and beats him up.
Campas was a punching bag man. And I'm saying this as a guy who always liked him. He was slow of feet and hands, and had no defense. He was beaten to a pulp by Oba Carr who was no great fighter himself. It didn't took a great fighter to beat him. The guy wasn't more than a slightly better version of Marco Antonio Rubio. Thurman would David Haye his ass ,jumping around the ring and continuously land the big right.
I might also. But this is pretty irrevelant to the chance of Campas against Thurman, since Carr beat the shit outta Campas
I think Thurman-Campas is competitive. Regardless whom wins. Thurman will face a guy he cannot budge and who will HIT BACK in the face of his firepower. Trinidad and Lopez had the firepower to make Campas fold. But I question if Thurman can. And if he can't... Well the likes of Chaves, Karass, and Porter gave him hell. For me it's no given. At least not until I see more from Thurman.
Campas might provide a rocky moment or two, but overall I think Thurman outboxes him and Campas likely retires on his stool as he was wont to do.
what a weird MM I'd go with Thurman but more interesting is the comparison of Porter and Campos, I think Porter beats Campos too
I'm pretty familiar with Yori Boy, from the time he was unbeaten and cocky as hell through his last fight in Butte, Montana. (I think that he has fought since.) I've been around him in the gym in California and in Arizona, when one of my fighters sparred with him. In my estimation, he is a puncher against guys lined up to be knocked out but not so much against guys that are trying to win. And you can miss him with a punch but you would have to do all the work because he is unlikely to do anything to make you miss. I don't think much of Thurman at all. His fight with Porter was close and Porter isn't much either. It wouldn't surprise me to see Thurman move and stay away and out land Campos. It would not surprise me to see Campos hurt Thurman to the body and make him run and win that way. Either way it goes the distance. What would surprise me is if I watched it.
