Re-watched Scarface last night

Was incredibly bored last night. It was on, hadn't seen it awhile, so I figured I'd give it a chance and hope that it wasn't QUIIITTEEE as bad as I last remembered it. It was worse. Honestly, it's mind-blowing how horrible this movie is. It gets dumber and dumber with each viewing. It's actually MORE over-the-top and ridiculous than say, Commando. Only difference being, Commando is FAARRR more fun to watch and is a much better movie overall.

Whoever still considers Scarface to be a classic in 2016 should be pistol whipped. It's one of the most ridiculous movies of all time.

Far-and-away for the worst crime drama of all time.

Some movies are overrated, yet still good films.

Scarface has no business being overrated because it's a BAD movie and shouldn't be rated at all.

Pacino did it a lot better years later in Carlito's Way. I mean, his accent was equally ridiculous in Carlito's Way, but its a much better movie.

 

I bet Pacino thinks to himself, "When I die, please let me be remembered as Michael Corleone and not Tony Montana."

 

Scarface is like the King of straight to video crime dramas starring rappers, except it's real actors with somewhat of a budget.

 

Crime movies starring rappers are better.

For example, Paid in Full is a MUUUUUCCCCCHHHHHH better movie than Scarface.

Scarface is on the same level as Belly.

 

Come on! Commando was realistic. You had one guy up against an army of well trained soldiers and he avoided machine gun fire coming in from all angles and only received minor scratches. That shit can happen in real life.

 

Scarface is every bit as over-the-top as Commando. The ONLY difference is Commando wasn't intended to be a serious movie. It's suppose to be a totally unrealistic action flick.

Scarface was intended to be a serious crime drama. That's what makes it so horrible.

 

How though? What separates Scarface from Belly? The fact that it stars Al Pacino and Belly stars Nas?

Scarface is CLOSER to the level of Belly and State Property than it is to Godfather/Goodfellas, I know that much.

 

scarface is a very good comedy

 

Where as Pacino withstands about 140 bullets in the final scene in Scarface and remains standing.

What's the difference?

Like I said, Commando doesn't take itself seriously. It was intended to be a totally over-the-top and unrealistic action flick in which Arnold pulls off feats inhumanly possible.

Scarface didn't have that intention. It's suppose to be a cinematic masterpiece.

 

The Happening is the king of unintentional comedies.

Although, I dunno. I think The Happening was intended to be a comedy.

Scarface certainly wasn't, so I guess it wins.

 

It's definitely closer to Belly than Goodfellas. No question whatsoever.

It's not just overrated. It's a shitty movie.

Goodfellas is Leonard and Scarface is Broner. The gap is that wide.

 

Hoodlum's a better movie than Scarface. No exaggeration at all with that one.

No one ever claimed Hoodlum was a great movie though or a crime classic.

It's a good movie though, and Tim Roth's performance alone makes it better than Scarface.

 

I remember when my Dad rented Scarface on VHS years ago when it first came out...and even then he said "this movie is so laughable...it's probably going to bé seen as a classic 'guy movie' in 10 years"

As it is, black 'gangsters' took it to heart as 'their movie' ::

 

Scarface is an awesome movie. 9/10. Better than cheesy ass Gay Liotta in Goodfellas. Ive rewatched many times and always enjoy it. Good mix of action, drama, a bit of comedy, and some emotional scenes too.

 

Scarface is a bad movie with a great poster. Better than Goodfellas? Must be crazy.

Uhhh FUCK NO....Scarface isn't as bad as X is saying...but no way is it near GOODFELLAS in greatness..

 

The sad thing is that today no one remembers that this film was a remake of a truly good film from 1932 starring legendary actor Paul Muni and directed by one of the greatest directors ever, Howard Hawks. That black & white film shits on the Pacino version.
