The Logan's Run remake that was shelved a year ago that was supposed to star Ryan Gosling and directed by Nicolas Refn was going to be a visual treat that we will never get now. Here are some recently released concept art for that ill fated production. Sandmen vehicles New You shop I dunno what is this, but looks cool
Who cares. All that CGI just means the story would have sucked, or at least the execution of it would have. Any word as to why the project was shelved?
Probably because it wold have been far worse than the original (which was average at best) Remember the remake of Rollerball they did a few years back? Ugh.
I watched it out of sheer intrigue and lasted 25 mins. Its a truly terrible movie. Funnily enough, I watched the 1976 version of Logan´s Run a few weeks back and it´s not that bad. It just gets lost during the last 20 mins...
This project has been in development hell for more than ten years now with a bunch of directors & actors initially committed, but then moving one mainly because of the studio's reluctance to commit to an appropriate budget, an appropriate screenplay and a deadline. It seems that every time it gets the green light the studio freaks out when the newest remake of the week bombs, so they puts it on hold indefinitely as this film cannot be made properly for less than $200 million. Of all the versions that were planned, Refn's was going to be the most visually stunning and closer in spirit to the original film. The worst version was going to be the prior one starring Zack Efron, in a darker story with only teenagers trying to escape in a rocketship to the moon.alm:
Would be good for a "Westworld" type treatment on HBO. Plenty of material there for an extended series. I'm sure it hasn't aged well, but I remember seeing the original as a little kid and it freaking me the fuck out. Like I saw mortality for the first time as an 8 year old kid and I started counting down the years I had left on this earth. ::
You thought you were going to die at age 30? :: BTW I never liked the original 'Rollerball', the made for tv movie of the 90s was so stupid & boring it made the original look like a masterpiece and the remake I didn't even cared to watch the trailer.
I think it was an HBO or Showtime movie which they retitled 'Future Sport' since the producers thought 'Rollerball' will imply 'rollerderby' which was no longer popular by 1998. They changed the whole premise and it was no longer a political thriller but just some shit without brains.
Maybe a parody should be made for laughs with Samuel L. Jackson doing the voice of the AI computer, "Last Mother Fucker Day. Capricorn Fifteen Bitches. Year of the motherfucking City: 2272. Motherfucker Carousel begins, niggahs." booty of the night
Pretty much, but odd choice because Logan's Run was a box office hit while Blade Runner didn't made a dime.
Yet is odd because usually hit movies are the ones remade, not the ones that lost money. And the Blade Runner sequel bombed at the box office too despite the good reviews which proved again it was a risky choice.
