The subtle racism of times past

Modern day Hollywood is very politically correct but from the beginning it was not so.

I wont go into the obvious stuff like this:



but lets discuss more subtle things.

For example, in Planet of the Apes with Charlton Heston, the ruling apes, the intellectual class, were the lightest skinned types and the mindless brutal soldiers with the JET BLACK types.

Other examples?

 

The scene in Mary Poppins when Dick Van Dyke gets black soot all over his face.

 

That scene where Han and Luke get medals, but Chewie, who played just as big of a part as they did, didn't get one.
