He's definitely no better than Berto now.

I think prime Kirkland was better than Berto and would be more dangerous to Cotto.

They both suck, but Berto was shittier IMO.

Head-to-head, I think prime Kirkland would beat the shit outta Berto.

yeah. i mean. i guess he only has two losses. so he is winning fights. his chin is just so awful i guess it is hard to imagine him not getting knocked out against anyone decent. but fair enough. he is exciting. he just seems so average yet he has been on cable more than most champions. just seems odd.

Ortiz, Guererro and Soto-Karass All LOSE to Kirkland, in REED's Opinion...@ the Very LEAST, Kirkland Fares Better Against Each of Them than Berto Did....

Berto's on the short list of the worst welterweight titlists of all time.

Can't say too much bad about him though. For all his many limitations and weaknesses, he damn sure ain't no Dickless Walters.... Berto always had tremendous heart.

guerrero is definitely better than kirkland as a fighter. no question. as far as the others, they were life and death with berto. so to fare better but not win is hard to make happen.

also, berto would have fared better against some japanese suzuki detailer

Kirkland's loss to the bum Jap is almost more excusable because the man was PAINFULLY out of shape. Literally looked like he had only trained on weed and pizza.

Berto's never been out of shape for any fighter. He was tip top shape, yet still got wiped out by Victor Ortiz.

I maintain.... a young Kirkland would be a dangerous fight for the CURRENT, faded Cotto.

Whereas NO version of Berto, young or old, beats ANY version of Cotto... I don't care if Miggy was 53 years old.

However, this is all moot point.... neither Kirkland nor Berto were ever quality fighters. In a deeper era, both are ESPN level fighters at best.

BTW, Berto would have never beaten Angulo.

Better Lb for Lb, Sure...But Kirkland DOESNT Lose to the Version of Guerrero that Beat Berto....Kirkland LITERALLY Brings the Bitch Out of Ortiz, as Well...

Kirkland has fought once in 3 years. i dont know that he'd beat guerrero or berto. Id pick this version of kirkland that cotto is facing over neither. panocha piss is the one who made the comment that kirkland is a better opponent than berto. so obviously he is referring to this current inactive version of kirkland.

when you stack up their resumes kirkland and berto are pretty much on par. only difference being berto was coming off a victory when mayweather jr fought him.

I would agree with Neil that AT THIS POINT, Kirkland is a lesser choice than Berto.

Lesser fighters only beat better fighters when THEY (the lesser guy) has a lot more left in the tank. Not only is Cotto the better fighter, he has MORE left in the tank than Kirkland.

It's a mismatch that Shawn Carter's employees will no doubt promote as a superfight.

You Keep Referencing Kirkland's Inactivity, as if his Style is Predicated on Fighting Frequently...It ISN'T...

Fuuuuuuuurthermore, Kirkland has Endured a 2 Year and a 2 1/2 Year Stretch of Inactivity, in the Past...Obviously, "Prime" James Kirkland is Forever Gone, but Dude was Always About Aggression, Conditioning and Attitude Anyways, Not Skills...Kirkland's STRENGTHS Aren't Things that Erode Irrevocably During a Layoff...

He Won't Be AS Effective in those Areas, but they'll STILL Be There...It's NOT like Kirkland's Rich, Living a Luxurious Life...

I don't care if kirkland is a sloppy seek and destroy fighter. Inactivity is never good for anyone.

It's a shit fight of absolutely no interest to me. I definitely wouldn't order it and I wouldn't cancel plans to watch it free. But these are the kind of fights I'd expect Cotto to take at this point. I don't have a problem with it.

I wouldn't have any problem if this was on HBO.

The fact that it's PPV is what's disgusting.

The more you fail to spend, the stronger Russia gets.

I don't know what the problem is anyway, only runners and clinchers come away with their virginity intact, that's the shit that should be free to air if you're brave enough to watch, I'm not.

Kirkland has the worst feet I have seen on any big-name fighter for years. In fact, he might have the worst feet I have seen on any fighter, period.

Agreed. Cotto should be too good for Kirkland but it still should provided us with a couple of memorable moments. But PPV for this shit ??? Nah

The fight was cancelled due to Kirkland's injury. Cotto looking for a new more profitable opponent...Juan Manuel Marquez! Both are interested in this match for one last big pay day, but agreeing on a catchweight will be a bitch: Marquez has stated can't fight above 140 lbs and Cotto can't go lower than 150lbs. Still we are talking about a very profitable payday...who will concede the weight advantage?
