You're getting close... soon you'll be conflicted by your unwavering allegiance to Netanyahu and your newfound suspicion of powerful liberal Jews... watch this space, everyone

What? Can't I beg to differ in opinions about films? Many critics thought that Star Wars (1977) was a piece of garbage Flash Gordon wanna be. Others think is Top 10 GOAT. Not everybody loves suchi and not everybody thinks that The Color Purple is a great film.

No, it really isn't. I watched it on Friday night and was shocked at how average it is now.

Remember when it came out, America had just got over the whole sorry conflict and their was huge public & media interest about it: "Wow. A new movie about the Vietnam War"
And it was on of three major Vietnam movies that year (1987):
    Platoon
    Full Metal Jacket
    Hamburger Hill

And of course, by now First Blood and specifically Rambo: First Blood Pt2 had already changed attitudes and primed audiences for how the Vietnam War was now seen: totally 'gung-ho'.
Like a flashback to the ridiculous The Green Berets

If you want to watch a real, true, objective movie about the Vietnam War/Conflict I highly recommend the 1974 documentary, Oscar-winner Hearts And Minds

That. ...is brutally honest and raw.

Yeah but you are basing greatness on difference of opinion on what happened. Not acting, directing, cinematography, and overall production.

Ben Hur had some of the best quotes and dialogue of any film...and that chariot race was just spectacular. Messala remains one of the best villains in history...in fact, to this day, I measure every villain on the Messala scale. Travesty that Stephen Boyd didn't win a best supporting Oscar for that role. Every scene in that film was powerful.

Like I said in my opening post...I rank Ben Hur and Godfather as the two best films ever made. I can't choose one.

f you're referring to Platoon - no. I found it formulaic, clichéd and generally above-average.

If you're talking about Hearts & Minds...then I'm just side-stepping for a moment about how that conflict should be seen.

I remember reading an interview a few years ago about how real-like Sicilian 'families' view Hollywood movies about the Mob and they apparently hate stuff like Goodfellas and Donnie Brasco but love The Godfather because that movie portrays them in the light they want to be seen in...

Basically, this relates to my earlier post about greaseball-guinea mobster fucks who don't like movies that portray them in a bad light: Americans are, likewise, 'uncomfortable' with movies about the Vietnam War because they lost....they lost big.

It's the uncomfortable feeling of 'not winning'....the eternal military embarrassment for them.

A feeling that still runs deep in various other aspects of life now.

That's pretty retarded ... Platoon is a film about what a total clusterfuck Vietnam was for the people doing the fighting, it's not meant to be some rahrah America film

None of those films, or Platoon for that matter in any way glorify the Vietnam War or are meant to, they are about people, they are character studies

Heat is pretty overrated. Not only is it not the best movie of all time, it wasn't even the best movie of 1995!

It's a damn good movie. I've just never seen it as the masterpiece some see it as. The only iconic scene that I love is the coffee shop convo between Deniro/Pacino.

And that coffee-shop scene is only ever talked about cos, wow, its the first time Pacino and De Niro are on-screen together! Gasp!

However, the only good scene is the massive shootout in the streets.
Otherwise, its pretty generic and overrated.

Now that I gave it some thought.... the shit isn't even a top 5 movie in the year it was made. 1995 movies that were better than Heat:

    Se7en
    Casino
    Usual Suspects
    Crimson Tide
    Leaving Las Vegas
    Braveheart
    Dead Man Walking
