The Pacino and De Niro scene was painfully stupid and self-conscious

I think Glengarry GR is probably a top 10 all time great movie. I can't really find a flaw with that movie. Just a superb movie with second-to-none acting by EVERYONE. Pacino, Lemon, Baldwin, Ed Harris, Spacey, Alan Arkin, all brilliant.

I think "Heat" is a great movie, but least of all because of that scene, which seems pretty run of the mill to me.

My favorite scene was when Deniro lured them out to the docs so he can check if they were on to him.

Great scene. I also like the Drive-In Movie theatre scene and the next when DeNiro tells William Fichtner on the telephone that he's talking to a dead man right now.

Whether or not Heat is a quality movie isn't debatable.

But THE BEST movie ever??? It doesn't belong in that conversation.

I don't rank LOTR as the greatest film ever, but it's a very good film...a great one. "Film Buffs" only hate on it because it is fantasy and CGI heavy. However with the exception of Elijah Wood the acting is very good and the execution of the story is superb.

Yes with the minor exception of the MAIN CHARACTER, the acting is good lol

Look, I thought those movies were enjoyable too but none of them belong in a discussion like this

    lol

Yes, having an annoying headliner doesn't help. Still...Aragorn and Gandalf were arguably just as important characters...and they had excellent performances. Other guys like Legolas, King Theodon, Borimir, leader of the elves, Christopher Lee's character, Galadrielle (great cast by the way)...were all very good performances.

But fair enough...LOTR (I consider it one 9 hour film) isn't in consideration for greatest ever film, so really doesn't belong in this discussion.

exactly my point. Which is pretty much why i have given up this thread. There are about 3 films up for discussion. But fightbeat's attention span is so small they have to continue to bring up more and more movies. Heat, The Color Purple, LOTR, Come on! Great movies, but not even close to GOAT.

I wouldn't stop there. There's easily 50 movies in history better than Heat.

I've seen all of those (1-4) listed near the tops of lists of "greatest ever" films... I've never seem Clockwork Orange that high up anywhere other than maybe on some 19 year old miscreant's list

    Agree.

For the record I don't think LOTR is an awful pick.

It's the last real "epic" that a director has gotten financial and creative control over an entire world building effort.

Even if you string the directors cuts together and come up with like a 12 hour version of the film, it has very little filler.

It wouldn't be my choice, but I understand why you might have had it in the running.

"The Hobbit" was shit in comparison, on all possible levels.......and I think aside from the original source material, it was the constraints and meddling by the producers that had Peter Jackson have to turn in an inferior effort for it. Mind you, I thought it was decent and watchable, but it was also really bad on occasion, which "Lord Of The Rings" rarely ever was.
