When people discuss great "black" movies, usually they only mention Do The Right Thing and Boyz N The Hood. Sometimes Menance II Society, aka the better version of Boyz N The Hood. But there's a few black movies of the 90s/early 00s which I find highly underrated.

Get On The Bus: Probably THE most underrated. Superb movie.
    Mo Better Blues
    Higher Learning
    Clockers
    Paid in Full

    All excellent movies.

    Sonuvabitch!!!!

But for the record.... Black Dynamite's a fuckin hilarious movie. The Nixon fight scene is classic.

Yeah it was great. I made the mistake of buying it on Blu Ray though. The quality is deliberately poor to mimick a 70's area film which kind of defeats the purpose of HD. I should have known better and just got the DVD.

Blood and Bone is another entertaining Michael Jai White movie. A totally stupid action movie that's very entertaining, almost like the black version of Commando, just not as violent.

I hate all Spike Lee films. So Mo Better Blues can get the fuck outta my face for example. Spike Lee think's he's clever with the typical shot of someone floating but supposedly walking...or the camera circling a couple during a conversation. Spike Lee can eat shit.

I'm one of the few that prefers Boyz N the hood to Menace II Society. I prefer it by far actually.

    Underrated is:

    Boomerang
    Coming to America

Eddie Murphy is one of the few black film makers that makes black films where black people look good. The others tend to focus on the hood or poverty or drugs or some shit. Fuck black filmmakers that propagate the negative stereotypes.

GTFOH! Spike Lee's a superb filmmaker. How you can shit on man who made DTRT and Malcolm X is beyond me.

Mo Better Blues is an excellent movie, and have even SEEN Get On The Bus? Or Bamboozled?

Even his movies which have nothing to do with race are excellent, like 25th Hour.

And Coming to America is FARRRR from underrated. It's universally regarded as being one of the best comedies ever. Probably on EVERYBODY's top 10 list of comedies, regardless of race.

Boomerang I loved when I was younger, but I watch it now and it's not nearly as good as I remember. The two best aspects of Boomerang are the soundtrack, and how sexy Halle Berry looked. But the movie itself is mehhh.

Hav Plenty and Love Jones are underrated black romances from the 90s.

Spike Lee has had some terrific movies... D&M is crazy

Maybe not a totally "black" movie because Anthony Quinn has a major role in it, but Across 110th Street was a good movie back in the day with a great theme song by Bobby Womack

Spike Lee sucks ass! Malcolm X was his only good film and even then I credit that more to the source material and Denzel's excellent performance. The sun shines even on a dogs ass some days.

Sanna is fucking gorgeous, but she can't save L&B from being a mediocre movie. It ain't a horrible movie, but it's not an especially good one either.

    Crooklyn... ANOTHER Spike Lee classic.

You treat this man as if he's some no talent hack like Tyler Perry.

Spike Lee is overrated as hell, in my opinion. I can't stand his films. I did like Malcolm X though make no mistake. That was a good film.

Rest of his films are shit! What's with the silly jazz music that's incongruent with the flow of his films? What's with the Spike Lee patented camera shots and tricks? He's an annoying rate faced bastard.

Uh, actually you fucking racist piece of shit, I was thinking more along the lines of the convoluted plot, some ridiculously superfluous "sexy" scenes, that sort of thing... Just drags the movie down

If Malcolm X is the only Spike movie you think is quality, you should cease debating movies.

DTRT is a masterpiece, and exceeds any movie 97% of directors ever make.

DTRT makes you laugh, makes you angry, causes you to confront your own prejudices and being so true to life, offers only more questions instead of a neat conclusion or a heavy-handed answer... The story concludes for the players but the larger forces that move them continue on unabated... That's what makes it a great film... Ron Howard would have had Sal and Mookie hugging at the end and rallying their neighbors in a heartwarming rebuilding project, which is why HE is a fucking abominable filmmaker and Spike Lee is sometimes a great one

Aight...DTRT was good. I admit it. I'm still traumatized by the death of Radio Raheem though.

The fellow who played him just recently passed away

He paid a fearsome price for a slice of Sal's Famous
