Movies that were critically/financially successful.....but you didn´t like.

Discussion in 'Movies & Televison: Reviews, Discussions & Debate' started by Rich ´Money´ Mustard, Feb 20, 2017.

  1. Or, don´t like now.

    Give reasons as to why.

    For me:
    The Godfather, Pt II
    The Empire Strikes Back
    Aliens
    The Shawshank Redemption
    Lord Of The Rings

Disliking Godfather II is so edgy!

  5. From the first time I saw it...I always felt it was really slow and ponderous.

  6. Panchyprsss

    Panchyprsss Clogg's LORD PROTECTOR

Many Oscar winner pictures can be put here.

  7. Erratic

    Erratic "Twinkle Toes" McJack

    Critically Acclaimed:

Brick: I just couldn't get into this movie. It was dull to me.
Insomnia: I like Chris Nolan, but didn't like this movie all that much.
Shakespeare in Love: I barely remember anything about this movie. It was totally forgettable to me.
The Blind Side: an average after-school special type flick, with Oher coming across as a borderline retard.

Well, the obvious would be Avatar, but I'll give that one a rest and list some others:

All of that Lord of The Rings bullshit.

    The Departed

    The Matrix Trilogy

All of the Spiderman's after the first one

All of the Ironman's after the first one.

    Ironman v Captain America

  9. Critical success....many. Commercial success, not so many. From my experience commercial success is more indicative of an enjoyable film than critical success.

  10. Whooooooo! POW! BOOM! KA-BOOOOM! ! Screeeeeccch! Rat-a-tat-tat-a-tat!! SMAASSSHHH! Aarrrrggghhh!

  11. Pretty much agree with everything here except the last

So true. That's Sly's movie preference right there.

  13. I said that partly to bait you. Like I said before (no Mayweather) I like a wide spectrum of genres. You've already seen me mention and list dark quiet psychological thrillers.

The difference is that I can also appreciate the artistry in films that have a great deal of action and special effects, whereas you can't. So I basically have a more rounded and realistic view of the film industry where you are just stuck in a (cunt) bubble.

  14. Lord of The Rings Bullshit? See...that's my point right there.

  15. Anyway...

    Harry Potter films
    Transformers
    Spider man 3

    All shit for me.

  16. "Spotlight" was extremely mediocre.
12 years a slave was overrated as fuck
    Slumdog millionaire was shit

    Agreed on all three.

    Spotlight was shit.

A few recent Oscar nominees for best picture.

    The Revenant
    Gravity

Now i'm not saying these films were "crap" but i just didn't much enjoy them outside of a couple of scenes.

    Agreed on both. Èspecially Gravity.

The Revenant was a good movie, but not the great one it was hyped to be.

Another Dicaprio movie: Inception. NEVER liked this movie.

I wasn't crazy about Inception either but i'd watch it again. Don't think i'd bother with the other two.

  21. Rvenant was boring. Didn't see the reason for the hype at all.

The Revenant and Gravity were both big screen experiences that lost a lot of their resonance on the smaller screen...........especially "Gravity". If you watched it as it was intended, on an IMAX screen in 3D, it was pretty fucking good.

I don't think I'd bother watching Gravity on my TV again. I have caught myself watching big chunks of The Revenant over again, from time to time.

"Avatar" suffers from the same fate, but to the highest extreme of possibly any movie ever made. "Avatar" was a technological breakthrough and a completely immersive movie if you watched it originally in the format it was intended to be watched. Obviously it's translation or usefulness to a more traditional viewing method is fucking atrocious. I went from "Fucking WoW!" watching it in the theaters, to "What the fuck was I thinking, this shit sucks", trying to watch it in any other format.

  23. Gravity wasn't very good either. Apollo 13 was miles better than that for one. Interstellar too

  24. Slice N Dice

Slice N Dice Big stiff idiot

I watched Gravity on a plane and really liked it. The Revenant was good but I agree it was overhyped.

Inception was one of the dumbest movies I've ever seen that was trying to be smart

    Agreed.

  27. Rainmaker

    Rainmaker "Twinkle Toes" McJack

    Agreed.

  28. This is a good assessment.

  29. Nobleart

    Nobleart Narwhal King

Shit man, you guys are no fun. "Inception" was another movie that was cool as fuck in the movie theater............plot holes and all.

You're not wrong. It was a decent viewing for one time on an IMAX screen. Then I tried to re-watching it a home, and realized how shitty it is.
