I am an old fart, almost 58 years old and closer to the grave, and as the shadows deepen over me I think back to the lost treasures that live in my memory from a time when everything was simpler and better, when the notion of future was more optimistic, while films in cinema were gritty, grim and realistic before the Hollywood noisy explosions addiction and nonsense formulaic plots took over originality and good writing. One of those memory treasures is the 1973 Walking Tall starring Joe Don Baker based on the true story events in the life of Tenn. Sheriff Buford Pusser, a young man who became a legend in his own time when he took on the Dixie Mob and the State Line Mob like a one-man army. I rewatched this film with my daughter and it still retains all the elements that made it into a critics and box office success. Joe Don Baker was the perfect actor to play this role and the rest of the cast also did an excellent job. Powerful, moving and simply great. 8.5/10

That remake with The Rock was garbage and a complete fictionalized version which tarnished the Walking Tall franchise.

I remember watching this in the late 70's as a kid when it came on tv with my uncle and late aunt at their house. It came on tv here in Japan recently and I recorded it and skimmed through it later just to rewatch some of the moments that stuck in my head over the decades.

  6. 'Tarnished', 'Franchise'.

Oh, you didn't know? there were two sequels, one tv movie, one tv show, books, a remake and even three inspired music albums. If that isn't a franchise then you are an IDIOTA!

I like the Rock but that film was hideous.
