I have seen plenty of others, by John Wayne for example, yet my list includes the same movies as Sly's. I'll throw in Django - Unchained and Once Upon A Time In West

It's not amongst the "best", but I always liked The Fastest Gun Alive with Glenn Ford.

I dunno what's the best. I know my two FAVORITE westerns are The Outlaw Josey Wales and Tombstone.

    Open Range is excellent.
The 3:10 to Yuma remake is very good too.

My personal favorite is Appaloosa with Viggo Mortensen and Ed Harris. It's not much of a shoot em up and the pace may not be to your liking but I like it a lot.

Probably like a lot of those 'revisionist' and 'acid' Westerns of the 1970s: dispelling the myth of the traditional idea of the genre...

Tombstone was the last GREAT western. The last very good western was 3:10 to Yuma. Open Range was also good, but it was lacking "something". I prefer 3:10 to Yuma.

Favorite guilty pleasure western: The Quick And The Dead. I'm sorry, but it's a REALLY fun movie to watch!
