Seems like if Jacobs didn't get tired in last 3-4 rounds he could've taken over. I could be wrong.

Well, yes, black fighters aren't what they used to be.

Well, maybe if he gives geal a rematch, he can recapture his prime then.

Why do you think he got tired :dunno:

By your account, Jacobs basically won 8 rounds... That's pretty retarded

    lol, precisely

Getting punched really hard probably had something to do with it

I see this phenomenon a lot. Guy is expected to get mullered, doesn't, his corner roar encouragement at him and before long people believe the guy is dominating.

British TV guys scored the first 3 rounds 2-1 to Golovkin.

Well, yeah. It's not some chance trivial thing that he got tired. But just saying - technically, mechanically he was affective.

He also missed quite a few shots in there. There were times Golovkin was nailing him to the belly and Jacobs was throwing and missing.

And all of this with 15lbs advantage.

It's possible the weight gain drained him late on too.

    That was certainly at play.

He fought well. He took full advantage of being the much bigger man. He kept it close.

He ran out of breath there. He's gotta restore the image of one of their house fighters.

Right... And as you say, this phenomenon frequently occurs when a fighter outperforms expectations, especially meager ones,,, Doubly so if the favorite is an undefeated champion... Magus is transparent with this... He thinks GGG is overhyped, Jacobs performed better than anticipated so he's in here crowing about robbery, exaggerating the events of the fight... Eventually, others will join and a fake narrative emerges and we all lose

Not classy of jacobs to blame his loss on politics. And then claim to be a gracious loser.

British TV were a bit more sanguine, noting basically that the first 3 rounds could have gone anyway and that GGG got a knockdown in the 4th.

Then GGG won the 11th and the 12th, clearly, but modestly enough.

So you've got Jacobs in a hole after 4, and GGG winning the last 2, and people walking in here saying Jacobs kicked the shit out of him the rest of the way.

Jacobs is a bit better than what he showed vs Pirog, GGG isn't Marvin Hagler, he;s probably not even John Mugabi.

And he's definitely slipped, and he had the 15lb weight disadvantage.

So basically........it's a decent if uncompelling nights work by one guy against a guy who was a bit better than expected.

It's not like Eugenia Williams was in there racking up the rounds for GGG.

If I go to the table and tell the croupier I am going to throw two-threes, and instead I throw 4 and 2, I still threw six, gimme ma money!

The fact that GGG did less than we expected, and that Jacobs did better than we expected, doesn't mean GGG didn't do more than Jacobs.

Also....Kellerman is a fool. Alvarez poses NO THREAT to GGG that GGG didn;t overcome tonight.

    exactly

With ggg's chin as sturdy as it is, i see no way he could lose to alvarez. None.

  21. cdogg187

    cdogg187 GLADYS

Alvarez can't possibly do any better than Jacobs did tonight. I think he gets methodically beat up

  22. Xplosive

The end of the first sentence is an exaggeration. Golov is a much better fighter than Mugabi. Mugabi was a bigger pure puncher though.

    Hagler would have thrashed Golov.

  23. cdogg187

    cdogg187 GLADYS

He's definitely got a strong chin... He took some real shots from basically a hard-punching light heavyweight tonight

  24. Double L

And fast ones too. Ones he couldn't have seen and he still barely flinched.

Maybe the only chance Alvarez would have is bodyshots but I think he'd be hard pressed to land them with ggg's punches coming at him.

  25. Double L

Jacobs' height and reach was also a factor. Ggg is usually the taller guy. Not tonight.

2 performances in a row that Golovkin looked like shit. Not sure if its a style thing or he's starting to get old, but I think it's obvious he ain't the killer he's hyped to be

  28. cdogg187

And Alvarez is a short, dumpy motherfucker

Jacobs was all elbows and forearms and height and made far better use of his "functional weight advantage" than Alvarez does. It's a totally different fight and I saw nothing tonight that tells me that Alvarez doesn't eat a fuck load of leather.
