140lb tournament

  1. I generally agree with that....but didnt Pryor eat flush shots off Arguello for 15 rounds?

did tszyu begin his career at 126lbs?

  3. No but who was the better puncher?

The 126lb argument just ovet-validates Pryor's win over an ATG and is used when arguing the merits of Pryor generally.....

I'd say Arguello was just a naturally better puncher than Tszyu, even at 140.

One thing that IS overrated about Tszyu is his power.

Arguello's one of the best punchers that ever lived... Tszyu is... well.... not.

  5. I also know that pretty much every poster on here was deriding and laughing at Hatton´s chances - anywhere between KO1 and KO6 - so, yeah, it counts alright as does the old adage ´a puncher never loses his punch´.

  6. Neil

    Neil tueur de grenouilles

who did arguello ever knock out at 140lbs?

So what was in that bottle, the one he mixed :dunno:

  8. Well that's EXACTLY the argument I used on here once when disagreeing with the overrating of Aaron Pryor when everyone uses Alexis Arguello as his defining fight(s): who did Arguello KO at 140?

  9. Hut*Hut

I don't see any reason to think his power was diminished at 140

Since when did Kostya Tszyu become some Bob Foster level puncher?

This is a man that took 11 rounds to stop Rafael Ruelas.

Pryor ain't Judah. Tszyu isn't stopping him early... and we ALLLLL know the early rounds are Tszyu's only chance.

Pryor had more stamina and Pryor had more balls.

Tszyu wasn't a total dog, but he was a front runner. Pryor would bring that front runner out of him.

  11. Thats true but I def remember him being touted as one of the P4P best punchers of that time 2000-2005

And especially by the arseholes on this Forum

He was. But he's not sparking Pryor early. And the longer the fight goes, the worse it would get for Tszyu.

As I said, Tszyu would struggle a lot with the angles Pryor punched from. He was a "tidy" fighter who liked to fight at his own pace. He wasn't built to withstand a wild, grueling fight at a high pace.

Arguello was MORE built for that kind of fight, considering Arguello's stamina was LIGHT YEARS better than Tszyu's.

  13. As things are, probably Mayweather and Pacquiao win this tournament cos both would be juiced-up on EPO

Pacquiao ain't winning this damn tournament!

Saying Floyd has zero chance against Whitaker is a stretch. But I'll say this with confidence... Pac would have ZERO chance against Whitaker. Pea would make him look inept.

  15. I laugh at Xplosive on these topics. Dude talks big on Mythical Matchups but when real Matchups occur his prediction accuracy rate has a lot to be desired. As I've said before, he has great historical (text book) knowledge but he doesn't have the ability to apply it.

Anyone that says that Pea would make Pacquiao look inept...is just being Biased. Pea has never had to deal with a speedy high workrate southpaw stamina daddy before. NONE of us know how that fight would have turned out.

  16. You don't think modern boxers on EPO and similar PEDs can't 'out-punch' or 'out-stamina' guys from the past?

Sly has no agenda in staying it's uncertain if Whitaker could beat Pac. No agenda at all.

Whitaker would school the living shit outta that Pinoy.

  18. I'd pick Pea, but it would not be a one sided schooling. That's ridiculous. Pacquiao was a phenomenon himself.

  19. If Marquez could feint Pacquiao into frustration, Whitaker would give him fits all night....

Whitaker-Pac has 9-3, 10-2 written all over it. To be very blunt... Pea was a higher level.

Whitaker 9-3 sounds about right... With Double scoring it 6-6 thanks to his insistence that all a guy has to do is come forward and get punched in the face to win rounds as long as the opponent is annoyingly immodest and hip-hoppity

Name one fighter of pacquiao's calibur that whitaker beat 9-3. he might beat pacquiao (i'd pick pacquiao to win), but it certainly wouldn't be 9-3. Whitaker groupies are nutty.

Name one fighter of Whitaker's caliber Pacquaio was ever in the ring with

He'd shutout the scalps Pacquaio claimed at 140 half asleep

Tszyu's right hand may not have been Tommy Hearns dynamite, but it was super sharp and accurate and Pryor has no defense.

Arguello was about as rigid, unathletic and stationary as you'll ever see an elite fighter. He was also a former fw that never did much at 140.

The idea that Pryor had some supernatural unbreakable chin seems to fall apart when you watch him getting folded up and bounced off the canvas in his title defenses. And that's what his rep is based off. He's a handful for most guys on most nights but a sharp puncher that's not stiff as a board will dust him up.

P schools Pac. That should be obvious. More about styles than levels but P was definitely better.

Arguello might have been unathletic and stationary, but he was better suited for wars than Tszyu. The man was a fuckin front runner and would come undone in the type of brutal war Pryor would force.

Yes, he'd hurt Pryor, and yes there'd be moments he very effectively counters Pryor, but Pryor would keep coming, and Tszyu would mentally fold before physically folding.
