He was overwhelmed and knocked senseless, you idiot. By one of the best heavyweights that ever lived, and arguably the most devastating offensive force the sport has ever seen. And it just so happens... a MUCH bigger man than Spinks. It woulda been the exact same result whether Spinks was intimidated or 100% confident.
Spinks DIDN'T EVEN WANT TO COME INTO THE RING!!! Butch Lewis had to convince him to even fight. Spinks was TERRIFIED. He was a huge pussy. In press conferences before the fight it was clear that he had already given up. On the ring walk he looked like a man being sent to the electric chair. No one can convince me otherwise...he gave up and didn't even try to win. Fuck him and his bad knees and his cowardly exit from the sport.
I highly doubt Sly has seen any fights of the 175 Spinks. He's a casual fan, the Tyson fight is likely the only Spinks fight he's seen.
This supposed causal fan understands the sport better than you. Didn't you pick Lacy to defeat Calzaghe and Matthyssee to beat Garcia? You only have "textbook knowledge". You're a legend in your own mind. Spinks was a good lightheavyweight...I've never questioned his 175lb credentials my sole criticism of him is the way he went out like a pussy against Tyson. If I wasn't a Spinks fan do you think I'd even be this passionate about him going out that way. Think. playing with that tranny at home has clearly affected your ability to reason.
Spinks was a "good" light heavyweight. Yup, just like Floyd was "good" at 130. And if only idiotic retort to me calling you a know nothing casual fan is "Didn't you pick Lacy over Calzaghe?" then you clearly got nothing.
Exactly. Calling Calzaghe better than the lightweight Mosley or the welterweight Trinidad is comical. Joe was not that level a fighter. He caught Jones and Hopkins at the right time. That's literally it.
Riiight... I was as big a Calzaghe fan as a Tito fan when they were active but this is just absurd. You don't "rate" Mosley and Trinidad... Joes my boy but he almost got ktfo in the first round of his 'step up' fights 45 fights into his career by guys in their 40s... Twice.
Back to Calzaghe, forget past fighters... there's five CURRENT fighters who are better than Calz was... Kov, Gonzalez, Ward, Loma, and Crawford.
Slappy was better than Crawford. Slappy vs Ward is a close fight but Ward definitely has a better resume.
It's debatable, but I don't see it as some given that he's better than Crawford. Don't forget... this guy went life and death with Robin fuckin Reid. How quickly people forget that. I think the circa 2009-2012 Ward would outbox Calz. I hate Ward, but there's no doubt that at this point he's a few years removed from his peak.
Crawford hasn't really done all that much. He's still a contemporary top guy. He could start looking average or losing and never be brought up as an elite guy.
He was only hurt when he was dropped by Jones, and that's because it was a freak punch, in fact it wasn't even a punch, it was a forearm smash. Besides, he was knocked down, it's not a big deal. Just like it wasn't a big deal when Tito was dropped by Vargas, or Campas, or Lueshing, or Cortes, or Carr...
Yup. 'Almost KTFO' - he was up at three both times he was knocked down and one wasn't even a punch. MTF ::
Hey, he's white and we're in the age of spin, so why not swing for the fences. Slappy is in my all time top 10. Lol "Our Joe"
Crawford is definitely an elite fighter, WTF are you talking about? Every fighter in the top 5-7 P4P is what I'd consider elite. Crawford is not a Mayweather or Whitaker level talent, but I don't see some big gap between him and Jokezaghe. He's DAMN SURE done more before 30 than Sloppy Joe did.
No list is complete if it doesn't include that boxing marvel that was John 'The Quiet Man' Ruiz! :nono:
If Crawford started losing now you wouldn't see him in mythical matchups 10 years from now. People would forget about him because he hasn't established himself. Honestly, Crawford is only p4p because the field is so weak. His best win is over a clearly smaller guy that he beat by being bigger.
For one, I don't think the Gamboa fight was his best win. It's easily the Postol fight. The guy was the consensus 2nd best fighter in the division, was coming off some very impressive performances, and expected to be Crawford's toughest test. Crawford whitewashed him with ease. Terrance is a very good fighter. Maybe not a great fighter, but shit, I don't consider Jokezaghe great either. I consider him an opportunist who chose the right time to fight two all time greats. ABILITY wise, I don't see a big gap between Calz and Crawford. Calz was more athletic, and probably harder to hit, but Crawford has better power and better technical skills and seems to have extra gears he can kick into. I've always seen Crawford as a more talented Stevie Johnston, w/power. That's pretty damn good.
100% agreed. Why some people rate this as Tyson's 'quintessential' performance is baffling and clearly shows they know fuck-all about boxing.
Calzaghe :dunno: You've basically got 1, one, UNO fighter, from 160-175 in the past 30 years that definitely beats him in a fight, and that is prime Jones.
