My first hunch is no. First of all I believe it would lead to more cuts and stoppages because of them, second, the strategies to avoid getting hit (such as clinching) would probably increase

I´ve got a pair of Cleto Reyes professional fight gloves from 1999 (10oz and still in great condition) and being hit flush with those as compared with 14-16oz sparring gloves isnt nice...black eyes, bleeding noses and cut lips appear from nowhere.

Actually, Getting Knocked SMOOOOOOVE Out is "Healthier" than Prolonged Asswhippings...That's Why You Almost NEVER Hear of an MMA Guy Dying in Competition... They Wear 4's in that Sport... There'd Be More 1-2 Punch KO's w/Smaller Gloves, but a SHITLOAD More Hand Injuries Though... 8's are Fine for Welters and Below, 10's for Those Above Welter... REED:hammert:

I don't think it would give an advantage to punchers because a feather fisted guy could still bust you up.
One reason is fighters would become too tentative. Don't know about you, but moreso than knockouts, I prefer fights with a lot of sustained back and forth. With 4oz gloves, real exchanges would be few and far between. As it is, too many boxers fight scared.
Yes that's true and I tend to agree but remember the Foreman v Lyle fight in 1976 - for some reason they both used 8oz gloves and although it might be an anomaly, it produced one of the best Heavyweight slug-fests of all time...
Quiroga vs Akeem reopened the debate in a big way, allegedly. Akeem basically finished the fight unmarked, the loser, and collapsed soon after. He died after a suspciciously-sanctioned fight in Nigeria a few years later. Quiroga finished the fight marked up to bits, a winner, and seemingly, neurologically speaking none the worse for wear.
Yeah but the drama would be higher even with lower action because a knock out could happen at any time. From an aesthetic point of view i think it'd bring back more old school styles too with more emphasis on rolling and catching rather than ear muffing and on setting up hurtful shots rather than flurrying
True. There could be positives. For me, I like boxing when it is fluid. Like if you turn the sound off and it is the middle of the night and you are half asleep and you could swear there's two guys in there dancing with each other. That is the kind of boxing I like. Not to sound gay (not that there is anything wrong with that). With 4 oz gloves, I just think that part would be lost. I think it would become more herky jerky and less athletic.
