My reactions are that because Prometheus fucked a lot of people off, Scott has veered too far back to a more original Alien 'feel' but tailored for today's stupid, dumbed-down audiences.

It'll make a ton of money but will have above-average or mixed reviews from fans & critics...

Well Scott did say he was going back to the horror theme that surrounded the original.

As as for the trailers I'm doing my usual boycott of any new ones so I don't see too much. I already know I'm going to go see it, so why ruin it by seeing too much too soon?

Why are you interested in this film anyway? You believe that we cannot get passed the dome that seperates earth from the water above.

You are doing the smart thing. The trailers are giving way too much away. :nono:

Tbh, I only like Alien and Aliens (and even that one I find a bit taxing now)
Alien 3 was too disjointed, Alien Resurrection was pure shit and Prometheus was just confusing.

I agree. I don't consider Prometheus an alien movie anyway. It's a prequel and that's it. Alien 3 and 4 were complete shit and I don't acknowledge them. The first two were excellent.

Of course, Alien and Aliens are two completely different movies and should be viewed as such: one´s a suspenseful horror, the other an action-horror.

I remember going to see Alien3 and being dismayed by the fast-moving, CGI alien that was running around.

    Probably agree on Prometheus.

Alien 3 is a competent film, but the whole plot was such a letdown follow-up to James Cameron brilliant adrenaline rush rollercoaster that was ALIENS (my favorite). Alien 4 tried to capture of the ALIENS magic and tried to somehow justify the comeback of both Ripley and the Xenomorph but didn't succeeded completely. It is more watchable than ALIEN3 IMO. ALIENS is a masterpiece. Great film. Very influential. James Cameron at his peak as writer/director. ALIEN is amazing. A film that was groundbreaking on many areas while telling a rehashed cliché haunted house horror film. Big kudos to Ridley Scott who against the studio's wishes made this film his own, more inspired by 2001: A Space Odyssey than 'Star Wars' (ALIEN was released on 1979, two years after Star Wars). That said, I still cringe that Scott had to concede and give the studio honchos a space explosion (they demanded that...sort of like to recreate the Death Star explosion that audiences loved so much in SW), because in fact Ripley didn't NEED to destroy the whole damn ship. She could have escaped in the shuttle and leave the xenomorph in the ship. But the studio got away with that *groans*).

Alien 3 is underrated. Really liked that movie and the philosophy in it.

It has received better reviews after David Fincher did SE7EN & The Fight Club. I still think is just competent and a complete atrocity as a sequel as it ruined the whole purpose of ALIENS climax by killing (off camera) the little girl Newt during the opening credits. The whole planet prison/religious cult angle did not fit the ALIEN saga. I hope someone rewrites it as just Ripley's hibernation nightmare and all was a dream.

Actually Ripley did need to destroy the whole ship. She knew the company would get their hands on the Alien and use it as a weapon if she didn't.

Man you always like the movies most people don't. Just a few off the top of my head:
    Alien 3
    Ang Lee's Hulk
    Fast Furious 3

You have a special eye there Anthony.

Ang Lee's rubber doll looking Hulk was painful to watch. So much potential wasted! It was criminal!

Hulk was a real comic book move based on what? Because he shot it like a comic book? The Incredible Hulk (MCU) was so much better than that film it's not even funny.

Because it's how i imagine the Hulk and the people surrounding the hulk would act to him being a green monster. The movie was very slow, but it was telling a story of a man dealing with this issue and how he is transitioning. It was a beautiful piece of art.

At the time, I felt the Ang Lee version of Hulk was as good as they could´ve made it at that time.
I can still watch it - I like Eric Bana, Jennifer Connolly, Sam Eliot....although the Hulk growing to massive proportions was a bit odd.
    Then: 7/10
    Now: 6/10

Clearly the extra five years, until The Incredible Hulk made CGI advancement better (I hated Norton and Liv Tyler though, FFS)

Nice article about why Hulk is good.

    [h=1]‘Hulk’ Is Still The Best Marvel Movie — Here’s Why[/h] #Marvel

Every now and then, I’ll allude to the opinion that Ang Lee’s Hulk is one of the best Marvel movies out there. And I’m generally greeted with shock and horror, as the fan consensus is that movie was terrible. For most people, that’s little more than received wisdom, and in many ways, it’s one of the best superhero movies ever made.
    It Makes The Hulk Watchable
Let’s get this out of the way: Yeah, the Hulk was great in The Avengers, but notice that he’s basically limited to a couple of action scenes in the movie. There’s a reason for that, and that reason is Bruce Banner is a terrible character.
If you or I run into a problem, we may get angry, but we generally deal with it constructively or at least civilly. Bruce Banner, in real life, is the guy you hear about on the news beating somebody up in a McDonald’s for not buying his food fast enough.
When he’s barely in the movie, you can gloss over this, which is more or less what Joss Whedon did. Ang Lee and James Schamus, though, make it a focus by necessity; why is Bruce Banner such a damn mess? And why should we care about him, when he’s terrible? That has a few pleasing results elsewhere, like for example…
    The Characters Are (Mostly) Complex
One of the more confusing aspects of the Hulk comics is why General Ross keeps up his Don Quixote-like quest to beat up the Hulk with giant robots. Beyond a certain point, you’d think the military would either take him off the Hulk project, or fire him outright. But in the movie, it makes perfect sense; he thinks Bruce is going to kill his daughter. Hell, she’s convinced Bruce is going to kill her, something the movie communicates in one of its many gloriously weird, blatantly Freudian dream sequences.
This isn’t true across the board; Josh Lucas plays Talbot as such a cartoonish dickhead he might as well brag about his time in the Cobra Kai. Even the movie hates him: The movie takes such glee at beating the hell out of Talbot he turns into comic relief, right down to his hilariously undignified death. But, as a rule, in any scene there’s a lot more going on than just “Hit this guy really hard” or “Hit on this plot point.”
The Action Scenes Have Actual Meaning
Thanks to how the characters are drawn, the movie does get off to a slow start. But first of all, it’s one hell of a pay-off. This action scene, for example, is what Hulk fans had been waiting to see for decades:

    <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Fkjmo-TI6bo" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

It’s got a little bit of everything: Destruction, humor, characterization, and destruction. Secondly, every action scene has an actual meaning to it. Take Bruce’s climactic fight with Nick Nolte’s weird mashup of Zzzax and The Absorbing Man; at this point, it’s not just about smashing the American West. It’s Bruce facing up to the fact that he’s a screwed up human being and expressing his feelings. Except instead of long monologues, he hits things and nuclear weapons are involved. And if there are monologues, it’s at least two actors having fun; it’s no coincidence the movie’s climax kicks off with Nolte biting into a piece of scenery. That said, it’s got a flaw or two.
It’s Faithful To The Comics, A Little Too Much
One of the common responses to this movie is “COME ON! HULK DOGS! Those were stupid! Why did they ever make a movie with HULK DOGS?!” Weeee-ellllll… this may have had something to do with that.
    [IMG]Marvel

Similarly, Lee’s experimental editing in the movie is spectacular, but alienating for audiences used to movies cut a certain way. Lee plays with frames within frames and how they flow into each other in a way that’s almost giddy.
The funny thing about Hulk is that the reaction to it was very similar to Man of Steel, in that Ang Lee sat down, read a massive pile of Hulk comics, boiled them down to their key themes and ideas, and made a movie out of it. And people, supposedly, hated it.
It Defines, For Better Or Worse, The Marvel Cinematic Universe
Hulk didn’t get a favorable reaction when it came out, to put it mildly. Arguably Marvel uses it as a blueprint of what not to do; don’t hire an arty filmmaker, or at least not one with the ability to say no, and get rid of them once they start getting feisty. Include enough of the comics to please the fans, but not enough to alienate people who’ve never touched a comic in their lives. Stick to action and leave the thinking part to the Oscar bait.
But should they? One thing I’m fond of pointing out whenever this movie comes up is that despite the received wisdom that everybody hates it, Marvel and Universal went back and made exactly the movie fans claimed they wanted five years later, Louis Leterrier’s pretty good The Incredible Hulk.
The results were exactly the same, financially, and critics were unmoved. Even though they did everything possible short of burn Lee in effigy to announce this was the fun dumb Hulk everyone wanted, it turns out… nobody really wanted it that much. To this day I wonder how much of Hulk’s failure was about Lee’s excesses and how much was about the fact that really just nobody cares about the Hulk that much.
All that said, I’d rather a filmmaker swing for the fences than just hit all the points a screenwriting manual insists have to be there. The key thing about Hulk is that everybody has an opinion on it. They may love it, they may hate it, but they always remember it. And honestly, how many superhero movies can we really say that about?

But that was accurate. that is what the hulk does, at least in the Cannon Comics. "Hulk" is probably the most accurate depiction of the comic book character to date with regards to his rage and his strength.

Thats a good piece and I might add, when the movie came out, a whol ton of Internet-Thicko-Low-IQ´er were compalining aong the lines of:
´Huh! It aint nothing like the TV series! How can he jump that high and take howitzer shells?!´

Yeah, and guys don´t turn green or expand to 700lb of muscle when they get hit by Gamma rays, either.
Its all about suspending the audiences´ belief.
If you can do that, you can get away with anything in a superhero movie.

Yup. One of the biggest complaints on this site was that Nick Nolte overacted and was doing too much.

My reply to this day is how the fuck can you overact when your son is a 15 foot green monster than has unlimited strength and you are a fucking loony psychopath? There is no overacting there. Nolte should have been nominated for that role.

To be honest, I never watched the whole thing, just a few Hulk scenes. It just looked too shitty and so I've never given an opinion on it since I haven't seen it. It looks like shit though and I'll never watch it. It looks like they made it a drama and as much as I love dramas I can't take that one seriously.

Personally, I don't like Eric Bana. He irritates me no end.

Also in the Hulk I didn't find The Hulk scary...he was more cute n cuddly! lol He seemed friendly and only wanting to defend himself from the bad guys whereas in the MCU version the hulk was one enraged, destructive, ruthless scary motherfucker!

But my main complaint with The Hulk was that there was too much exposition. I was practically falling asleep before any real action started. Also...the ending was bizarre, to say the least. To this day I don't know what all that was about. Weren't the hulk and Nick Nolte's monster fighting as non physical energy beings or something? I didn't get it.

The Hulk vs Abomination fight....was where it was at! In fact, IMO, The Incredible Hulk is one of the better MCU films, period.
