Bowe could've pushed for the lewis fight. It was more a case of Newman wanting all the control and not risking if it went to a purse bid

Well I personally don't remember back then exactly how it all went down but Bowe is claiming he was being forced to fight Lewis one month after he'd just beat Holyfield. In Bowe's mind that was Lewis's way of ducking him or either it was the politics scheming behind the scenes to screw him over and so rather than face Lewis at a disadvantage he dumped the belt.

No truth at all. It was always understood that the winner of Lewis Ruddock would face the winner of Holyfield Bowe. The Lewis Ruddock fight was actually billed "The Fight for the right". Bowe understood that if he beat Holyfield, his next fight would be against Lewis. The cunt ducked Lewis plain and simple and the world was robbed of one of the most intriguing and meaningful heavyweight fights in history

 

The pro-Lewis side was the minority position in the 90's. It was the correct side, though.

Bowe tried to intimidate Lewis like the bully he was, and Lewis stood right in front of him and smiled at him.

If ANYTHING, Lewis looked calm and cool, and Bowe looked like a guy who was annoyed because Lewis DIDN'T shit himself.

As for Tyson-Bowe.... Mike woulda stopped Bowe. Bowe had the physical tools to beat Tyson if he fought the right way... but he wouldn't use those tools correctly. The guy loved to trade, and he didn't clinch when he was hurt. Moreover, Bowe NEVER met a single left hook he could avoid.
