The Lolly Madonna War (1973)

This is an underappreciated gem that needs to be rediscovered. A gritty drama based on real events. Two feuding families claiming the same piece of land whose conflict escalates by a prank gone wrong and the tragic arrival of an innocent out-of-town girl who will become the center of a full scale war between these people. Great performances by Rod Steiger, Robert Ryan, Jeff Bridges and a very young Gary Busey as well as newcomer Season Hubley as Lolly Madonna.

The film was also known as 'Lolly Madonna XXX' which caused many to mistakenly think it was a porn film. It was later retitled 'Fire in the Meadow' for its VHS release.

 

An average movie at best.
They're are tons of movies from this era far more deserving of a thread.

 

Name them. Not the classics, but films like this one and Boxcar Bertha, films that needs to be rediscovered.
