ESB was the better movie. Jedi was fun for kids but pretty shitty as an actual movie. Prequels sucked. New movie is good.

Nah...the original Star Wars was begging for a sequel. It was on its knees begging. Darth Vader had survived the assault on the Death Star and his ship is seen recovered from the spin and on its way into the deep reaches of Space. We needed to see this Emperor they spoke of and we needed to see the Empire strike back. The sequel was just as brilliant if not better. No way they could have stopped at just one film.

Okay, but thats just my opinion that I prefer the first movie, Star Wars.
Ive always liked that movie above all the others.

What´s your opinion on the link that points to the thread title (if youve read it?)

Well written article and I can see what they're trying to say. The prequels and the sequel definitely ruined a lot of the mythology that was created in the first film

    Exactly.
How often have we seen people generally criticize the 1999-2005 Prequels, the two new Sequels and even Return Of The Jedi?
Once the media-circus has died down and youve watched them however many times, it really does make sense what that guy is trying to say.

I also think a lot of the same criticism is now being directed toward the Alien movies and Ridley Scott now trying to focus too much on the ´How/Why/Where Did The Alien Originate´ and its started to look as diluted as the Star Wars series.
All the mystery is or has been taken away. Everything you need to know about the backstories and history is all there.

    ´More isn´t always better´

Of course, it´s just a movie and it depends on how passionate and invested you are in these things....

If people's main goal were to make the best movie possible and just let the chips fall where they may than you would more often than not get a great film. For instance instead of making Return OTJ on Chewbacca's world and have a bunch of wookies fighting the Empire, Lucas decided to make the Ewoks so he could increase his audience appeal to include women and children.

So greed is usually the thing that causes films to suck. No matter who or what you blame it's usually money at the root. The studio kept interfering with the director? They were too worried about their investment not to. The writer sucked? He was brought in on the cheap, or the studio didn't trust him because they were too worried about their investment.

ESB is the reason Star Wars isn't just some forgotten gem of the 70's so it's a ridiculous argument. I repeat, rotj and the prequels were awful though. New movies rock.
