    In for a quick nibble.
Floyd drops him quick in an MMA fight. McGregor is merely a boxer with a sprawl, who'll spike a toe to the belly once in a while. :emoji_ghost:

If Floyd was to enter the octagon to fight say,.. Nurmagomedov - then we can properly talk about the 'dangers' of if it were an MMA fight.

I'm not interested in this fight at all. Let's hope that Floyd fucks him up quick time and decides based on that to have one more fight...and that fight being against either the winner of a proposed Spence-Thurman unification or the winner of Canelo-GGG.

He's not instantly recognizable, but his name is instantly recognizable if that makes sense.

People tend to find his fights disappointing but when I talk to the casual fans they still marvel at his rare skill. His abilities are the epitome of the sweet science and as such he's been a great ambassador for the sport.

    ,

Agreed, Floyd fans may point to his PPV numbers and claim that he's been good for the sport, but I'd wager that most of the casuals who tuned in for Floyd fight have been turned out from the sport and view boxing as some kind of boring sideshow. We had (kind of) the same situation in Québec with Bute. Hugely popular, massive PPV revenues and sold out arena as soon as the tickets were on sale. But after milking the public for so long, even the guillible locals fans were sick and tired and could see that the stiffs he was destroying were far from elite. It led to the Froch fight (with the result we know) and since then, boxing has been on the way down in the province. Guys like Lemieux and Stevenson (who to be honest, needs to step up his level of opposition) generates far less revenue than what would have been expected. Short term spikes doesn't translate in long term growth if it's based on gimmicks, smokes and mirrors and uncompetitive fights.

Connor-Floyd is exactly the kind of fight which will generate short term interest via clueless, gullible mainstreamers but which will hasten boxing desmise to the fringe of sports (if it hasn't happen already)

Wtf do casual fans know about "rare skill"? Were you impressed by Floyds performances against Guerrero, Baldomir, Pacquiao? Were those demonstrations of "rare skill"? The public was amazed...

Floyd a great ambassador for the sport? LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Ali, Robinson, and Louis are probably up in the sky pissing on Floyd's head right now, while Floyd thinks its drizzling rain.

Of course casual fans can appreciate rare skill you nincompoop. The fact that they are fans at all, casual or not, means they appreciate boxing talent. People are impressed by his hit and not get hit prowess; the best ever in the history of compubox I might add ;).

Yes....all of Floyd's performances have been impressive from a technical standpoint. Not all have been exciting but I can appreciate his genius.

    Yo.....

Don't take my word for it.....He was the world's highest paid athlete at one time according to Forbes. A boxer being the world's highest paid athlete is automatically an ambassador for the sport. Now....he can't read or speak properly and so will unlikely be invited to the United Nations to speak on behalf of boxing....but he has carried the sport over the past decade or so ( along with Pacquiao).

I´d say the fact that Boxing as a sport is it absolutely on its last legs is the reason this ´fight´ is going ahead.

the fight is happening because mayweather jr stands to make a 9 figure payday vs a novice. and the novice stands to make 5 to 10 times more than he ever has in a mma fight. all this other talk is nonsense.

ray robinson was probably the greatest fighter ever. an ambassador for the sport? thats pretty funny

if he was around today he'd be doing the exact same shit mayweather jr is, if not worse.

Agree... an actual boxing match between two boxers not some fucking sideshow between a retired, risk-averse millionaire and some daft, mouthy cunt

But then these two are what are 'inspiring' young, up-and-coming fighters from both sports.
In boxing certainly, guys don't want to craft their art and go to the Olympics: they feel too 'entitled' and want the Mayweather route.

That's maybe why Lomachenko is so good, so early?

I think Conor has a legit shot, he just needs some head movement and the right game plan.

M & M are going to be laughing, partying, and making it rain together all night after the fight. I can hear it now. "Yo Conor, I can't believe those bitches fell for that shit!"

"No shit Money me man! It's like taking candy from a fooking baby!"

"Now let's go get some bitches!"

exactly. It's a money grab pure and simple, and has nothing to do with boxing being on it's last legs or any such absurdities

Even if Robinson was around today and beating bitches (which he would be) at least people wouldn't be ordering Robinson fights on PPV then wanting their money back.
