If you really liked the first movie, you will go above and beyond the call of duty to find every infinitesimal thing wrong with this one.

But, its only a superhero comicbook movie.....not a work of art.

I might (or might not) go watch it this weekend.

    BTW...

Bruce Springteen is immensely pissed that there wasn't a single song from him in this film. I mean, how DARE Marvel not include a Bruce Springteen song in an 'awesome mix' of 70's & 80's songs!

WW is a new origins film, which always is special in this genre. GOTG2 somehow I get a vibe of repetition in the trailers. Don't get me wrong, I loved the first one, but the trailers for this one just don't excite me for some reason.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Finally watched it and my concerns proved to be founded. First of all there is not a damn plot. After the initial sequence the Guardians almost immediatelly go to Ergos planet and stay there until practically the closing credits. All father-son bonding is what we got here with jokes to compensate for the lack of an interesting plotline. Baby Groot was too cute and felt more like a merchandise device. And lets not mention too much the awful choice of songs for the 'Awesome Mix vol. 2' Except for George Harrison's 'My Sweet Lord' most of the hits here were fringe, semi-unknown songs that were significantly inferior to those from the first film. There were a couple of nice things (the cameo of the Watchers!!!), but even those were buried in this big, noisy, cgi overloaded, bombastic sequel. I was more disappointed than entertained. 5/10

    Yep.
Classic case of an adult over-thinking a young-person´s movie.

    FAIL.

Come on, man! Are you going to deny that everything I stated wasn't true? I loved the first one, this one not so much. It seemed like the actors spend 90% of their scenes in front of green screens for the cgi effects to distract from the lack of a plot. This was downer, just like 'Iron-Man 2' & "Iron-Man 3" were inferior sequels. Excuse me for expecting at least the same standard set by the first film and not an inferior Transformers-like 'look at the flashy-CGI!' romp.

No, I already agreed with you. But you´ve marked it down to 5/10 (and I know a 5 is average, or should be average, in everyone´s book), but couldnt you overcome your pre-ordained critique and at least enjy it for what it was? I´ve already stated what I didnt like about it...
Sequels almost NEVER match the first movie....this Vol 2 was never going to tick all the boxes and top the first.

    8.1/10 IMDB
    81% Rotten Tomatoes
    US$ 500 million+ in the first 2 weeks.

This is hardly a failure on a DC-scale.....

I think adults are underthinking these movies and that's why they get shittier and more absurd and time goes on. Earlier Marvel films were fantasy films that appealed to children and adults like the original Star Wars movies. Now that the ball is rolling it's just a bunch of bright colors, choreography and costumes for kids like the Star Wars prequels.

It's funny to see Mean Mr Magus praising this shit. It's like he's trying to stay young and prove he's not grumpy by watching shitty kids movies and being cool with it.

Marvel's fun and humor factor lets them get away with a lot of shit. This was a fun film.

These days most sequels are better than the original (Captain America: The Winter Soldier & Civil War comes to mind). GOTG2 is average because it spend over an hour on the 'I AM your father' angle and the characters were hardly developed. The ultra serious assassin/convict Drax here is a jokester and his lines were not funny; Starlord was meh here with his mommy/daddy issues; Gamora was just green; Rocket remained awesome; Groot annoyingly cute; Nebula also having daddy issues and thinking about it there was no need for her to be here; too much Yondu for my taste and like I said too much cgi romp. Heck the initial sequence monster seemed borrowed from Men in Black's universe. Is the second Marvel film I kept checking my watch to know how much was left for the film to finish as watching it felt more like a chore than a pleasure.

I didn't really enjoy this film. It wasn't too bad but much like the first one I would never sit through it again. In fact I think the first one was better.

To start, the comedy feels way too forced, especially with Drax and his ridiculously fake laugh. The humor in this film just wasn't funny at all. The beginning of the film was just bad; they took a serious scene which should have been action and made it comedy which managed to take all the drama out of the scene. The opening scene felt flat because there was no real danger to the characters.

GOTG 2 feels like it was made for children. There's practically no real action that didn't wind up becoming a play on more humor and the humor is childish and silly.

What really made the film bad was the final boss battle just dragged on for too long. It sucked the life out of the film as they kept switching between each characters situation while taking forever to get to the climax. Also that was about as lame a villain as you can get. 5.5/10

Generally these movies are for kids but I see what you're on about with your review.
My own personal gripe was the overlong scenes between Quill & Ego, the songs weren't as strong and I'd hoped it woud tie-in more with the MCU....but yeah, Drax' laugh was shit.

This came on the movie channel so I decided to rewatch it to make sure it was as bad as I remember, which it was. This film has zero entertainment value and is a big mess of a film. I honestly will not watch the third one and after rewatching this and remembering how Marvel turned Thor into a comedy, I’m seriously considering skipping Deadpool 2 although I may go just for the caramel popcorn.
