As it was expected Disney's Cars 3 took the #1 spot at the box office with $53.5 million, which is little lower than the $57 million predictions on Friday. It is also the lowest debut for a Pixar film as even internationally it just grossed $21.3 million.

However it was the #2 top film, Wonder Woman, the one who got most attention as in its third week dropped a mere 30% and added a smashing $40.7 million, putting its domestic cume at $275 million AND increased its global numbers to $574 million. The DCEU WB comicbook origins film is now expected to beat both domestic numbers of 'Suicide Squad' and "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice'. It might also beat the global numbers for 'Suicide Squad'. This is a great feat since this film cost less than those two and a smaller opening than both, but has proven to have stronger longevity legs than the prior films.

In the third place the Tupac Shakur biopic All Eyez on Me overperformed by grabbing a hefty $27 million even in the face of bad reviews (24% RT).
In the fourth place The Mummy continued sinking in the domestic sand with a bigger drop than expected (56%) taking $13.9 million. That is Tom Cruise's biggest drop since Legend. BUT the film continues to be the #1 grosser at the international front by taking $53 million for a current worldwide total of $295.6 million. Cruise box office magnet might have diminished significantly domestically, but internationally remains very strong.

Debuting in the fifth spot is the shark thriller 47 meters Down which took a bite of $11.5 million which was a bit better than the $10 million its producers were hoping for.

And the bomb of the week is the Scarlett Johansson's chick flick/girl's party Rough Night which grossed only $8 million. The movie crashed in the 7th spot and had, like, bad reviews. This second bomb in a row doesn't help the case for a Johansson 'Black Widow' solo film, so it looks like Marvel had a better grasp of Scarlett's leading role potential than what many thought.

Never even heard of 47 Meters down.

Also, Johansson flopping in a chick flick doesn't mean she would flop in a Black Widow film. I bet it would do pretty good depending on the budget.

Tell that to Marvel who has now pretty much shelved the idea.

  5. Havent watched a single movie with Johansson leading in it that I thought was decent.

Admittedly they'd have a harder sell on her than Wonder Woman, a known commodity not to mention someone with actual exciting powers.

Black Widow would have to be played like a Captain America film concentrating on spy stuff and that can be hit or miss with a woman heading it up.

And you never will like a single movie with her as the lead. Until you do.

  7. She can't carry a movie on her own.
    Never has. Never will.

Wow. Did you figured that out all by yourself? because, like, you know, on a third weekend...movies kind of...drop box office numbers?

Yup. But the way things were being worded the 46% from the week before was being ignored.

Dude. She already bombed in a big budget action/scifi movie, Ghost in the Shell. It is very unlikely that any producer will put her as the lead a big budget film. There is a motto in Hollywood 'you are as good as your last film' and her last two leading role movies bombed.

She had a hit with 'Lucy' on 2014.

Still doesn't prove her starring in a Black Widow film would flop. It's Marvel, it's a known product and character and if they market it right with a kick ass action packed trailer who knows.

    Yup

Again, Marvel isnt going to take the chance on the most boring character they have, especially after Ghost in the Shell. WHich is a fucking international sensation that one could not go wrong with.

Anthony nailed it: Black Widow is not among Marvel's best characters. She once had a short-lived solo title that didn't sell well so she has always being a supporting character in other heroes stories 'cause that is what she really is. She might be great as a regular in Agents of Shield, but Johansson will not do a tv series...not yet.

I was never saying if Marvel should or should not do a Black Widow movie, my point was simply it could possibly do well and I believe it would do well even if you guys and Marvel don't.

Despite the shit reviews, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is a huge succes. It made $162 million domestically and $680 million worldwide. That means we will see more sequals.

This time Disney critics decided to burn this movie down so it wouldn't be too suspicious.
