MMA is no closer to a real fight than boxing is, especially with the no 4 points attack in vigor in the UFC. To say so is simply a way for guys like Anthony or Dark Magus to feel better about themselves since that's what they do. In fact, the only video of a street fight between a name MMA guy (Don Frye) and a boxing guy (some old boxing coach) that I know of, the boxer won easily

 

Mmm, or maybe it's gor the same reasons why you don't see club fighters fight like Mayweather neither, they simply don't posses the skills

Also I have to say...people act as though Floyd is just some softy with great boxing skills. Floyd is a tough street nigga when he wants to be....I saw him manhandle corrales, Hatton and many other fighters on the inside and we've seen him take a beating before against Cotto and Burton and come back and pound them. So don't count on him being a wimp in a street fight.

Anyone that's never stepped into a boxing gym or an octagon but knows how to fight will kick the shit out of anyone that's 'studied' any kind of fighting for a year... The whole appeal of mma to shitkickers like you is you see it as a combination ancient Chinese secret/extra value meal that you can acquire and become a 'real fighter'.

 

You can "study" something all you want. Being able to actually implement it in a real fight is something else entirely.

And the notion that MMA fighters would ALWAYS beat a boxer on the street because boxers have only perfected one style.... well... let me just quote Bruce Lee... "I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times."

Sly, I definitely think race plays a factor in UFC's American popularity.

When the media says that MMA is killing boxing in popularity, they're not discussing minority communities.

I can say with confidence that among American blacks and Hispanics, boxing is still more popular than MMA.

Young American white guys LOOOOVVVEEEEEE it though, and generally hate boxing.

 

Weird that, boxing is booming here amongst all demographics.

Americans don't give a shit about boxing, but that's ESPECIALLY true of white Americans I feel.

In the black community, I feel boxing is still more popular than MMA.

Amongst Latinos, forget it. It'll be hard for MMA to EVER usurp boxing in the Latin community.

Yeah, going back to Terp's point... I know a guy who's been boxing for over a year now, yet can't fight a fuckin lick. I'd easily kick his ass, and it's been a few years since I've sparred or really been in the gym.

Let's not ignore the fact that in ANY combat sport, it takes a certain level of physical TALENT for anyone to excel.

It's not like any palooka could walk into a boxing or MMA gym and within a year of "studying" become a killer.

The elites have this shit in their blood. That goes for both boxing and MMA elites... they have fighting TALENT that most people do not possess.

 

Yep, and they also have to possess a certain mindset.
I´ve sparred against guys who look great on the hevay bag/double-end bag and mitts - but put them in the ring and they can´t pull the trigger.

Likewise, whenever I spar with Boxing or Muay-Thai against the top-guy/owner of my gym - if you get in the ring with him, then you´re fair-game and you have to be prepared to take big shots and kicks.... which he seems to excel in dishing out.

 

So are you telling us that Mayweather will beat Conor in a street fight?

 

There is nothing than Mayweather cannot do - in any situation - according to D&M...

Ive often thought - legit - if Sly actualy dresses in a similar, albeit less expensive manner, than Floyd: same goatee beard, flat-brimmed New Era ´Money´ cap, torn jeans with expensive t-shirt, bit of bling, etc

 

I'm not saying that...just saying that Mayweather has some street toughness in him....he's not just a silk pyjama speedster.
