What are some obvious quit jobs or Dive Jobs in boxing.

So Dives will be hard to prove, but maybe there is an opinon. Do you think that fighter went in there to purposely lose or he went in there, felt the power and just said fuck it.

    I will start.

    Tyson vs. Etienne

I think Clifford took a dive from the start. The shot was hard, but the punishment wasnt going on long enough for him to just quit like that. I think it was orchestrated. And the way he took that mouthpiece out and stood up right at the end of the count like nothing really happened, IMO, was him letting us all know this is something he didnt want to do, but was forced to do.

To your point Anthony, no, Tyson-Ettiene was NOT a dive. A dive implies he went down from a non-legit punch, which was NOT the case here.

The right hand Mike dropped him with was right on the button and well set up. It was a legit KD. However, did Ettiene quit? Yes. He coulda gotten up, but chose to stay on the deck and collect his check.

I don't think Tyson-Ettiene was orchestrated at all. I simply think once Ettiene got dropped he realized he had no chance, and said "Fuck it!" and stayed on the canvas. Simple as that.

DLH-Hopkins on the other had, had orchestrated written all over it.

Who the hell ever told you that?

A dive is when prior to the fight the outcome is determined. What happens in the ring means nothing. Some guys will fake a hit, some guys will take the hit. If you were to take a dive, with all the camera work and slow motion, you better take that hit.

I don't subscribe to the theory that Oscar dived against Hopkins. He could have had Hopkins as a business partner even if he had beaten him, so that theory always seemed stupid to me. If someone says Oscar quit...then that's possible. Hopkins was proceeding to beat that ass anyway and Oscar probably wanted an easy way out and so he made more of the body shot than was warranted. Still, it was a legit body shot when you see the replay and it did land in a spot that bothers fighters...it was the same spot that Hatton landed on Castillo, for example.

Spinks QUIT against Tyson and no one can tell me differently. Sure Tyson hit him...but that final punch wasn't SHIT compared to Tyson's usual power. Spinks chose to ACT as though he couldn't get up. I wasn't buying it and still don't buy it.

As for an obvious "quit job", the most blatant quit job to this day is Camacho Jr-Lejia.

You'd have to explain to me what would be the incentive of fixing Tyson-Ettiene... cause there is none.

It's not as if Mike was being protected for a future big money fight, a Lewis rematch was out of the question.

And if Ettiene was paid to take a dive, wouldn't they also pay Danny Williams to take a dive?

Makes no sense whatsoever. The fight WAS pre-determined because Showtime knew that Ettiene was a total bum with no chin that even an old Tyson could dispatch of him easily.

If you can provide ONE compelling reason for fixing that fight, I'll listen, but there was really zero incentive for fixing it.

You CAN present a compelling argument that Tyson-Seldon was fixed, cause that was the build-up fight to Tyson-Holy 1. So there's an incentive to fix that fight.

    But Tyson-Ettiene? LOL. No.

Fixing the Hopkins-De La Hoya fight has no logical rationale either.

For one thing, Hopkins was a heavy favourite anyway. No way Oscar was going to win that fight in 100 tries. Too small...and not as good as him anyway even if they were the same size. Hopkins was always going to win anyway so why fix it? Secondly it's not like Oscar was looking like he was winning and then suddenly dived to allow Bernard to win. Hopkins was controlling that ass anyway. Oscar was doing a few shoe shines here and there but Bernard was gradually beating down that ass. Thirdly, WHY would Bernard have to win in order for them to be business partners anyway?

I dunno what the exact rationale would be.. all I know is that was the fakest looking body shot KO in the history of the sport and looked highly doubtful.

Best case scenario, maybe Hopkins wasn't in on it, and Oscar just chose to take a dive and stay down to avoid punishment.

Worst case scenario, they were both in on it.

Considering Hop was grinning his ass off going into the ninth saying "This is my round", and considering Brother Nazim kept screaming out "BODY SHOT! BODY SHOT!" you can probably tell which version I subscribe to.

Herbie Hide quit against Bowe. Of course Bowe was going to beat dat ass anyway, but Hide tried hard for two rounds and realized that Bowe was just calmly walking him down and ignoring his flurries and Hide legitimately became terrified. So then hide went down from a non punch and acted as though he was out of it. After that, when he decided to get up Bowe legitimately started to hit him with punches...but hide had decided by then he was going to be knocked out. Hide was perhaps boxing's most annoying cunt.

I think it was a legit body shot. It was well placed...and when it hits that "sweet spot" it doesn't have to be too hard to be debilitating. Still it wasn't a soft shot anyway. Worse case scenario Oscar decided to lay down to avoid any additional punishment. But a pre orchestrated dive makes no sense. I don't know who that would benefit and Hopkins was certainly not in on it by his reaction after Oscar went down.

Livingstone Bramble quit against Edwin Rosario.

Rosario beat the shit outta him, then dropped him with a big right hand. Bramble looked like he coulda gotten up, but said to himself "This guy hits too fucking hard" and opted to stay on his knees for the full count.

Yeah, he blatantly quit against Floyd. His rationale was two fold, one, he was trying to get Floyd DQ'd, and two, he simply realized that he had no chance and he didn't wanna take an ass whuppin, so he stayed down.

I disagree on Ortiz Vs Mayweather. That punch was FLUSH. He wasn't expecting it and his hands were down by his side. Other times he's obviously quit but that one was legit imo.

I think they were saying that he wanted out of the fight with the headbutt. The KO was a surprise to everyone.

Doesn't matter. Being ko'ed by Floyd like that is as likely as being ko'ed by a mosquito bite.

I think the guy is just a bit thick to be honest. He was actually having his best moment of the fight when he headbutted Floyd.

Tyson chose to stay down against Lennox Lewis. Lewis was beating him from pillar to post anyway but when you look at the KO you will see Lewis land a murderous right hand but Tyson took it ( although it hurt him) and only went down because Lewis leaned on him or pushed him down. Tyson was in the process of complaining to the ref when he noticed the ref had started counting and then pretended to be knocked out. I mean I don't blame him...he was receiving nothing but pain at that point anyway but it wasn't a true KO.

He was hurt and exhausted. He could have beaten the count but more would follow so yes he gave up mentally before his body gave out physically.

Morales pacquiao 3. No one wants to mention it out of respect for Morales, which I get, and the fact that Morales did fight his heart out prior to the end. But the fact remains that he flat out quit and obviously so.
