I thought his quitting against Diaz was much more shameful. I was there live against Corrales and I can tell you the punches Corrales was landing were devastating. At least in this fight, Freitas showed courage before quitting.

Yeah, the Diaz quit job was far more shameful, especially considering that it was basically a dead even fight at the time PooPoo quit. But after you quit once, perhaps its just easier to go there again.

But going back to Corrales, yeah, Frietas can't be faulted. It would be different if had proven he could hurt/drop Corrales, but he hit Chico with everything but the sink and couldn't hurt him nor keep him from coming forward.

He gave it his best effort, and was getting his ass kicked and on the verge of getting seriously hurt by a ruthless fighter. He was smart to pack it in.

Was he smart to hop on his corner guys shoulders and parade around the ring after packing it in?

If Freitas had the stamina of the gods, that would have been a clinic. Corrales wasnt touching the kid at all. It was like Cotto vs. Margarita until the wraps set in.

    Golota against Mike Grant
I thought Douglas could have gotten up against Holyfield
Douglas also "quit" against Louis Monaco but wound up winning

Yeah it was clear he was setting a pace that he couldn't sustain but he was schooling Corrales. A lot of people try to revise history and act like Corrales was in control and had his way. Corralles got a lot of benefit of the doubt from fans. I remember when Casamayor beat the shit out of him in their first fight and people were talking like it was a robbery. Casa schooled him in their third fight and people were saying it was a draw and neither guy deserved to win.

Man that was quite a career from Corrales when you consider all the great fights he was in and performances he had.

Agreed...Castillo, Frietas, Casamayor among others. He beat some great names when they were at the top of their games and yet Floyd beat him as easily as though he was in his first pro fight

He was outboxing Corrales for sure, but the end result was never in doubt for me. Once Chico took his best shots and continued pressing the issue, I knew Frietas was gonna fold late.

Frietas had notoriously shitty stamina that we already knew about going in the Corrales fight, cause we had seen him badly fade late against Casamayor.

I knew Chico was gonna stop him late.

Corrales definitely belongs in the HOF. As "blood and guts warriors" go, he accomplished more than Ray Mancini and Gatti, and was involved in arguably the best fight of all time.

Fuck floyd. Only reason you won't shut up about him is because he is undefeated. If he'd gone on fighting and eventually lost (like all fighters do), you'd be done with him like you are RJJ. My guess is your favorite genre of movie is super hero movies.

No, fuck you and your kind. Only reason you hate Floyd is because he is undefeated. If he'd gone in fighting and eventually lost you'd start having more respect for him the way you now have more respect for Jones

I thought Chico was doing a little better than it's often been said. Popo was outboxing him for the first 6-7 rounds, but Chico was still getting to him from time to time in those rounds. Chico would close the distance and land those terrific short shots up close, one of the left hooks looked like it barely traveled a couple inches and it flew Freitas's mouthpiece out.

Then at the end of a round, I think the 7th, Freitas landed a nice eye catching flurry, Chico hit him with one shot in response and hurt him. I figured Freitas was in trouble, and he was down the next round for the first time.

Even Mills Lane said Douglas quit.

He said "I don't know if Douglas could have gotten up, but he sure as hell did not try".

One of the worst "efforts" ever in defending a title.

Yep, Spinks was scared but he did try, and got legitimate KO'd. This wasn't a Bruce Seldon case.

All of Mickey Rourke's "pro" fights.

Apparently all of Richie Melito's fights before he fought Bert Cooper (unbeknownst to Melito.) Cooper admitted after their fight that he had been approached by Melito's associates (unbeknownst to Melito) and offered payment to take a dive. He refused and beat the fuck out of him in one round.

Some people are saying online that the Guerrero-Figueroa fight was fixed. Hmmm... I'd have to watch it again but I didn't think it to be true.

I think ettiene just bitched out from getting up. He knew the shot was hard enough that he could get away with lying down and he didn't fancy taking another one

Technically you're right but he really did go all out to win in the lead up and still couldn't hang, so I didn't feel like it was cowardice or that it cheated the fans out of finding out who the better man was.... more like a guy officially conceding an election at 5am when he's 65/35 behind in counted votes. 'Ok I gotta hold my hands up, it's clear I can't possibly win tonight, congratulations to my opponent'.
