This may seem a bit of a weird thread, but look at how much detail and arguments are placed on gloves in big fights these days.....its like no-one can pick a pair of damn gloves and fight with them - there´s always someone ultra-inspecting the weight, composition and colour of the gloves.

Ive heard that Grant make awesome gloves, but they cost an absolute fortune and are hard to obtain...

Any fighter who chooses to wear bright colored gloves is an idiot,... they never bowl with a black cricket ball do they? :emoji_deer:

All I know is Maidana was barred from wearing his glove of choice when he faced PBF. And after watching Maidana's previous fights, it is easy to see why.

If Maidana can do it, then maybe Mcgregor can too. :emoji_neutral_face:

The organizer of the fight decides what gloves are used. Usually there are about five pairs where both can choose from. You are never allowed to bring your own rock-hard gloves without the opponent's and promoters permission.

In Finland there was a little scandal about this. In the fight between Helenius and Duhaupas the promoter allowed Duhaupas to wear a cheap pair of ultra-thin gloves

  6. Okay, but following that, each fighter´s team gets to inspect the gloves (regardless of whether the organizers, commission, etc, produce them brand new from plastic wrapping)

True, but if the gloves are legal there is nothing you can do. Some of the cheap brands are so bad that the padding gets removed after one round of boxing, even though the glove is legal

The kind/brand Maidana wanted to wear were perfectly legitimate.

  10. I have two pairs of Cleto Reyes: 14oz sparring and 10oz professional that I bought back in the late 90s - both fantastic gloves and durable.

I've heard the Grant gloves fall apart pretty quickly and are at least $350 a pair...

  11. I remember watching the Hamed v Barrera documentary where Marc Ratner bought along at least 20 pairs of Reyes and the Hamed team took fucking ages trying them on, complaining about all sorts of shit about them and in contrast, Barrera took a cursory glance, pointed at a pair, said "those will do" and off they went...

  12. Hamed had hurt his hands in training and so was understandably cautious

If it wasn't given by the promoter, it doesn't matter

  14. Source?
First I've ever heard if damaged hands for that particular fight...
