I will say though that the counter left uppercut that McGregor landed in the first round ( I believe) may have hurt many a fighter. It was an impressive punch.

 

A lot of people already gave him credit for doing better than expected but apparently that's not enough for you. We were just talking abut people comparing the punch stats between McGregor and Pacquiao vs Mayweather. There's a disingenuous vibe coming from MMA fans making it seem like Connor did better and world class boxers those are somehow supposed to be evidence of it.

 

Hard to know but I bet this one hurt a lot more.

 

I thought it had nothing on it. Barely got Floyd's attention, Floyd just took it and carried on.

The only thing that impressed me about McGregor's boxing is his jab actually. His jab is almost non existent in MMA, but it was decent on Saturday, he's obviously worked on it.

I've always been surprised about Conor's lack of jab etc, given his freakishly long reach.

 

Impressive, unexpected? Sure. For me "amazing" is hyperbole.

 

When I first saw Conor in MMA, the one guy he kind of reminded me of was Hamed.

Funny thing is, stylistically in the boxing ring he's more like a cross between wald pussy and Calzaghe, only nowhere near as effective as either.

He did better than expected for sure, but that was largely because Floyd let him.

There's nothing "amazing" about getting walked down by a 40 year old retired fighter 20 pounds lighter and getting beaten like a red headed stepchild, when you're in your prime and a self proclaimed "170 pound Irish Gorilla" and you said you'd knock him out in the "foist round"

No no, that's the ONLY factor. McGregor was winning handily that inexplicably he just tired out within an instant like he was hit by a poison dart. Nothing the other guy in the ring had anything to do with it.

Good stamina is absolutely a fundamental aspect of being an elite boxer. You're only as good as your stamina, just like it's almost impossible to compete at the highest level with no chin or no power.

 

Khan was amazing.
