LOL, I didn't know that, but yeah I agree I've never been a fan of "Doug".

I suppose for this sparring I didn't imagine he had an agenda, and was just being honest.

I'd venture to believe that your Doug Fisher's, Steve Kim's, and Dan Rafael's know less about boxing than we do.

That's why I've always at least respected Max. He might have become more of a "company man" in recent years, but he knows and understands boxing far better than fucking Doug Fisher.

Canelo's team didn't have to get this fight made. He could have continued to face whoever he wanted. This isn't exactly a cashout. We were all thinking it would never happen after Canelo ditched the WBC belt, but there's a reason why it's happening - and it's because of time. We all continue to say that timing is key in boxing and even though I'm a big GGG fan and favour him to win, it doesn't stop me from thinking that this is the perfect time for Alvarez to face him. It's my gut feeling that an upset is very possible in this one. Golovkin doesn't look shot but I think he's lost some of that x-factor he had. He's got a good chin and all that but he's getting hit clean more and more which is a worrying sign for me. And let's forget who's got all (or most of) the pressure on his shoulders...it's Golovkin (and many will probably debate this). He's a big favourite tbh. He's looked upon as one of the greatest middleweights ever, which is something Alvarez is not. This fight really makes or breaks GGG in that regard.

Golovkin isn't a big favorite. Not by the odds, and not by the boxing community's thoughts. Pre-Brook, he would have been a big favorite.

After he destroyed LeMoo, there was virtually nobody in the sport and nobody on this forum who gave Canelo a chance.

Golov's last two performances have changed all opinions... but not mine.

The Brook and Jacobs fights haven't changed many people's thoughts on here. Golovkin is still considered a big favourite on this site and current voting is 21-5 in favour of him.

Canelo is the best fighter that GGG has yet fought. The reverse is also true (in terms of beaten opposition anyway). If GGG made a habit of destroying guys that have the combination of skills and abilities that Canelo has, that's one thing, but he hasn't.

Seems like most boxers are picking Canelo. Spence, for example, says Canelo will "dog him out".

The beauty of this forum is, we're usually right. The pre-fight consensus winner predicted by fightbeat usually goes to win, making me more confident.

Sly and REED are picking Canelo, but Sly lives to make contrarian picks so if an upset happens he can look like a genius, and REED hates Golov.

I don't always make contrarian picks...and when I do, they're usually correct (Forrest-Mosley, Hopkins-Pavlik, Hopkins-Tarver, Barrera-Hamed, Garcia-Matthyssee). I've gone with conventional thought most of the time if you check it.

Are you and the rest of the Canelo backers forgetting that even old man Cotto took 4 rounds off the Ginger? And at no point was old man Cotto in danger of getting stopped?

How are you sure Canelo can even deter Golov?

Thing is that Cotto fought a survival fight....and Cotto can be very cagey when he wants to be. GGG will come straight forward and apply pressure...and my reading of Canelo's style is that it works best against a guy like that.

Cagey and Cotto don't belong in the same sentence. Mig is one of the most hittable elite level fighters ever.

Golov has a better defense than Cotto.

Canelo's never fought a competent pressure fighter, so we dunno how he'll react. Shot Kirkland, and Liam Smith pressuring you isn't the same as Golov pressuring you.

Cagey is the wrong word. Negative is what I mean. Cotto came in to survive.

agreed...and it's true we don't know. I can only go on what I suspect from him based on how I read him. I think he'll come of age in this fight and use GGG's pressure against him. If GGG manages to destroy Canelo...which I don't expect AT ALL, then I will submit that GGG is even better than I thought (not that Canelo is worse than I thought). Canelo is a solid fighter and extremely difficult to stop....given his attributes and skillset

I've seen a few analogies for this fight which are good: Corrales-Frietas, Margarito-Cotto...but the way I see this fight playing out is more like De La Hoya-Mosley 1. Laugh at this now...but after the fight remember this post.

No, when Golov beats that ass I want you to admit that you overrated Canelo. Golov is capable of being exposed by a great fighter. Canelo isn't a great fighter.

Cotto-Marg 1 is the most accurate. I think it'll play out VERY SIMILAR to Cotto-Marg 1.

    You say Cotto-Marg 1 and I say De La Hoya-Mosley 1.

    Let's see.

All you Canelo backers are banking on Canelo being able to hurt a man who's never been seriously hurt before.

I think we can ALL agree that if Canelo can't hurt Golov, he's in a world of fucked.

He doesn't need to hurt GGG to win. On the contrary...GGG needs to hurt Canelo to win.

Canelo just needs to "bother" GGG with his punches enough to prevent Golovkin from just walking through him. He doesn't need to actually hurt him

I think it's safe to say that Canelo isn't featherfisted. Therefore while I have no doubt that GGG can take his individual punches...I don't think GGG could ever just walk forward without being concerned with the incoming.

In any event, it's going to be s fantastic fight. It has the potential to be a better overall fight than Hagler Hearns

For that, the fight would have to be a total surprise and a bloodbath, I seriously doubt Canelo will change his deliberate approach against one of the biggest and certainly the best foe he's ever fought.

I think that GGG is going to put him in a difficult position where if he wants to win the fight, he'd have to throw back some serious leather.

Sly, you assume that Golov has to pressure the Ginger at all times to win. What I'm telling you is, Golov is the better technician with a longer reach, and better jab, and that he'll outbox Canelo and beat him up.

I just watched some footage from their recent fights and I'm even more convinced that Canelo wins. You're underestimating Canelo's footwork. He has a way of stepping back and then stepping forward with punches, it will offset GGG's pressure and frustrate him.

I've changed my initial prediction from Canelo 7-5 to Canelo 8-4.

Funny, because I actually watched Canelo vs Smith on Monday, and felt more confident in my Golov pick.

Smith was nailing Canelo with several good right hands, and getting some good body work done.
