Fights where you feared for a fighter's life

Discussion in 'General Boxing Discussion' started by Destruction and Mayhem, Sep 8, 2017.

  1. Not talking about fights where there actually turned out to be a tragedy like Benn-McClellan, Mancini-Kim or Watson-Eubank...where a guy collapsed in the ring and was carried out on a stretcher etc....but fights that while the action was happening you saw a guy getting such a vicious beat down that you literally thought a tragedy was imminent if the ref didn't stop the fight soon.

    For me...

    Calzaghe-Lacy
Gatti Ward 1 round 9 (I feared for Gatti's life)
    Mayweather-Gatti

I'm sure there's many more when I have time to think about it but those spring to mind.

    Alfredo Angulo vs Andrey Tsurkan.

Angulo gave that Russian a HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE beating, and it was almost like the ref wanted to see the guy get killed, cause he waited til the last round and last possible moment to stop it.

If I was born around the time of the Robinson vs Lamotta Valentines Day Massacre, that would have been one. Jake took a lot of sick looking blows.

Chavez vs Rosario was pretty bad.

  4. I'm talking about fights you watched live (as they were happening)

    Bowe-Golota 2.

After the fifth round, I had a bad feeling that Bowe would die or end up permanently disabled.

    Joshua-Breazeale

  9. You just had to get your hero and his ´killer´ fists into another thread...

    Fuckin shameless cunt.

    ????

This is a weird one. That wasn't a particularly bad beating.

  11. I havent watched a solitary fight where I´ve ´cared´ for a fighter´s life.

In fact, Roy Jones Jr v Richard Hall was a good one, Jim Lampley imploring referee Wayne Kelly to ´´STOP. THE. FIGHT. Come on, Wayne, stop it!´

    Disappointing.
I was hoping for another 2 rounds...

Corrales/Castillo...at different points worried about the health of both guys

  14. Lacy though took a hellacious beating. That fight must have taken a decade off his life.

Morales - Barrera and Chico - Castillo. Both fights were just so brutal, so many hard, clean punches.

And every opponent Duran ever fought.

  16. Rounds 5 and 6 of the Gatti fight were difficult to watch. He was a punching bag

My gf actually found that one hard to watch at the time. I remember it being a 1 sided beating, but I don't remember it being THAT brutal. I mean, Calzaghe was landing an absurd number of shots, but he wasn't a huge puncher, mostly just slaps :D

  18. Jimmy

Jimmy The Greatest of Are Times

Pac-Hatton. That left hand was vicious and Hatton just lay there for what seemed like an eternity.

  19. It was brutal even though Calzaghe was a slapper. That fight should have been stopped by the 9th round at the latest. Lacy definitely won't live a long life

  20. Erratic

"The referee ought to be pistol whipped!!"

    Good ole' Larry.

    That beating was disgusting.

I honestly thought he was dead for a good fifteen seconds. Horrible KO.

Those type of fights are the ones that are more worrisome, when the guy doesn't hit hard enough to knock him out, so the beating just continues.

Pacquiao-Margarito was a brutal beating. I detest Margarito more than any other active fighter but I wanted the fight to be stopped.

  23. Agreed...I was JUST about to mention Pacquiao-Margarito. Another very difficult fight to watch.

  24. Gatti could've gone 2 fights, 15 rds each, back-to-back with Mayweather and he'd still take whatever was dished-out...

  25. You think Buddy McGirt stopped it prematurely?

  26. Yep.
    Should've gone to the cards....

  27. LOL!

    You are indeed a troll.

  28. Gatti could've taken the punishment but I'll need to go and rewatch to confirm

  29. lol

    You crack me up man.

That's the most RECENT example where I thought that, Breazeale was taking some really meaty shots without going down. He was getting too brave for his own good.
