Self explanatory. List guys who had endless stamina in their primes. The obvious ones that come to mind (in no order): Hagler Ali Duran Chavez Arguello Leonard Pryor Sanchez Marciano Continue...
Was watching a DLH interview today, and the sonuvabitch said something to the effect of "When I was young, I could fight hard for all 12 rounds."
Anyway for me the top guys are Armstrong Pacquiao Pryor Calzaghe Duran Hagler Guys with underrated stamina are Hopkins and Mayweather. They don't seem to be included in stamina discussions simply because they were not high volume fighters....but the true sign of stamina isn't workrate but it's whether you're as fresh in the last round as you are in the first round...and both Floyd and Bernard pass that test also.
Good question. Stamina often gets overlooked, as it's less immediately tangible than speed and power. But my god stamina is important, you're only as good as your stamina. Stamina often decides fights. I was surprised you left Armstrong out. I think the 3 fighters with the best stamina ever are Armstrong, Duran, Pacquiao. All 3 of them could fight balls to the wall at a frightening pace for pretty much every round.
I agree with that, but obviously if two guys are both fresh as a daisy in the last round, like Duran and Floyd, then workrate has to be factored in for list purposes anyway
This is why I prefer 15 rounds. When you consider the number of indecisive outcomes and controversial decisions we witness, wouldn't it be nice to have 3 additional truth-telling rounds? I bet a lot of these guys who try to play out the clock would not make it through 15.
Like who? Every 12 round fighter that has displayed tremendous stamina could also go 15 rounds. You don't think Calzaghe and pacquiao could go 15?
I'm actually arguing the stamina of guys like this "could" be an even bigger factor if there were 15 rounds. What I'm basically pointing out is that 15 rounds can help nullify the negative styles of a lot of these clock watching fighters. My point is, endurance should play a bigger role.
WTF, bunch of experts and no mention of Eusebio Pedroza here?? His entire reign was all about Stamina, I'd class him with anyone mentioned and above some
I mentioned Pedroza in the high IQ thread. But you're right, he belongs here as well. I loooovvveeee Pedroza's clinic on Patrick Ford. An absolute masterclass.
Part of me believes that Pedroza could have beaten Sanchez, but another part believes that his chin wouldn't be up to the task down the stretch. Not that Sanchez was a big puncher, but he was a very sharp puncher, and his left hook did carry pop.
It's a dream matchup, and I love Sanchez but I think Pedroza would've beaten him close. Sanchez had trouble with tall featherweights and I think Pedroza's outrageous dirtiness would've gotten under his skin
I dunno how easy it'd be to get under Sal's skin. He was one of the most composed fighters ever. We can agree it would have been close.
