Gennady Golovkin vs. Canelo Álvarez: Sept 16 2017 - Official thread

I hope Canelo is beaten so bad that somewhere George Foreman will stand up and shout "THIS MAN IS GONNA END UP IN A GAYBOX!"

 

Google Omar Epps opinion on this fight. I agree with his assessment

 

I watched it yesterday. He's wrong. He said theres's no way Golov can outbox Canelo, when that isn't at all factual.

Golovkin is a better BOXER than Canelo.

It is weird isn't it? Irrational like. He seems like the sort of fighter you couldn't really dislike, even if you're not a big fan.

 

Boxing fans rarely dislike the fighter themselves...they usually dislike the hype around the fighter.

Xplosive seems to HATE ginger, but I don't think he actually hates the man himself...I think he hates the fact that he's a G hyped fighter...and he attributes that hype to the fact that he's a Mexican that looks Irish.

 

That's fair enough and largely true. For example - I don't like Conor "Pillow Fists" McGregory, but it's actually his pathetic, sycophantic fanbase that irks me more than PillowFists himself.

Maybe they both just feel GGG is overrated, and that annoys them. Even that I find a bit weird though tbh, I mean REED has never rated Golovkin at all, he even picked Stevens against him.

 

Where did that term start? Because of who he lost to in the Olympics? Or people just think he acts gay?

 

Yep it's a pretty good article, I've been saying similar stuff all along - like Golovkin is both the bigger puncher AND better boxer, AND he's bigger, which is why I'm so damn confident in him winning, and surprised at the Alvarez picks and odds. I also mentioned in my first post in this thread about the level of comp Ginger has fought to prepare him for a beast like Gennady.

The only thing I disagree with is LeMoo beating Cotto. LeMoo would never been someone as good and skilled as Cotto, unless Miggles is completely shot.

I am surprised by how many boxers are picking Canelo. Do they see something we don't? Or they're tired of hearing about GGG, the guy all the boxers are supposed to be scared shitless of?

It was actually just the chatbox was called the Gaybox, and we were like, I wonder what Gennady's middle name is, and I think Punk was all "probably Gaybox".

These are the hordes of Mayweather Jr. sycophants that desperately need Alvarez to win, and to win big, against Golovkin, so that it will raise Floyd’s stock, elevate his legacy, and diffuse any potential public pressure that would subsequently be placed on him to challenge the Kazakh Kayo King.

OK sure. I mean, I am on record saying I don't even believe Gennady is significantly past prime, and I think he'll crush Alvarez, so if Le Ginge legitimately wins I'll admit I completely underrated him ;)

 

Also in analyzing this fight it seems to me that GGG has to keep it an outside fight...close infighting would favour Canelo (shorter arms, better and faster combinations). I guess that's consistent with me saying that the jab is the only thing that can stop Canelo from winning. If Alvarez can nullify the jab he wins a decision.


Also let me say again....look for the right hand to the body under GGG's jab. I believe that body punches will slow GGG down tremendously like they did Kovalev.

alvarez is not as smart or good as ward. not even close. kovalev is not as good or tough as golovkin either. golovkin already KOd kovalev

 

Disagree...the fact that he brought up Kell brook vs GGG as a rebuttal to Smith bringing up Amir Khan vs Canelo...proves he knows some shit. I think Omar Epps struggled a little to articulate his position but it's apparent that he sees the same things I see in terms of Canelo having the handspeed, combination punching and defense edge. Also we mustn't discount the fact that Canelo has pretty heavy hands himself.

I don't doubt he's a fan and avidly watches fights but to say Golovkin is a "fighter, not a boxer"...and I think he also said Golovkin CAN'T box, I mean that's just some basic, casual shit. He can't see the nuances at all.

i know a lot of boxing fans who think the same. that golovkin cant box and all he has is power. they dont recognize the subtle things he does in the ring. beyond that, Im not sure how a guy who cant box is able to have such a prolific amateur career. someone explain that to me?

 

Agreed, to deny Golovkin's boxing skill is plain fucking retarded. They're the same type of people who think the likes of Duran or any technical aggressive fighters are not skilled "boxers", and to be a good "boxer" basically means dancing around on your toes jabbing.

Basically clueless casual fans who don't know what they're watching.

 

I think that article previously posted explains it pretty well. It's just easy to go to labelling for people who don't know any better. Anybody with good power is reduced to a "puncher" so therefore somehow the opponent is automatically the "boxer". It's laziness combined with being easier to market in binary terms.
