I think the best movie of all time is...

Im guessing most of it went over your head. Believe it or not Avatar was incredibly deep.

The two films are very different. I've seen comparisons between Kennedy and Lincoln too...and they seem eerily similar UNTIL you point out all of the differences between them as well. There are far more differences than similarities haha

If you don't get the greatness of this scene (which you wont) I feel sorry for you

avatar was interesting but it was basically dances with wolves but blue aliens instead of native americans, as i remember it.

 

Personnally, the movie that left the biggest impression on me is Apocalypse Now!. Also, I agree with Sly, Inglorious Basterds is indeed a masterpiece, and yes this is IMO Tanrantino's best movie.

i like it, and think it's superior to the other movies in tarantino's post-Jackie Brown B-movie kitsch era - better than kill bill, django, death proof, hateful 8 (that's probably in descending order of quality, although the last two are prob similar). but when all you have is ironic pastiche characters, the movie's always gonna lack real emotional development - so it doesn't match up to reservoir dogs & pulp fiction, for me.

Basically, a troll and a CUNT.

 

I felt it depicted the crazyness of war and the effect it had on people masterfully. The madness of Kurtz, the decent into madness of Willard (is it really a decent?), the madness of the soldiers, many of them completely apathetic, having fun and acting playful while surrounded by unspeakable atrocities are deeply troubling. I also felt the photography, the acting and the direction of the movie are great. The general atmosphere of the movie, supported by great music, is perfectly crafted too. The movie contains scenes that haunted me for a while after. Thinking of it, I'll rewatch it this weekend.

I've first watched it as a teenager and thought it was cool but nothing more. I've rewatched it as an adult and was completely blown away. I couldn't believe how much had flown over my head the first time I've watched it.

 

I dint think he'll mind me saying this but Nobleart's Dad was in Vietnam at that time ('70-'71) and says Apocalypse Now portrays the while conflict as 'cartoonish' and not very believeable...

 

Well, he has been there so his opinion cannot be discounted but I guess it feels right to someone like me who has never been involved in a war. It connects well with my own perception of war.

I think that´s where Apocalypse Now made in the 1976-77(?), scores higher than a lot of other Vietnam-movies that came in the 80s: Platoon, Full Metal Jacket, Hamburger Hill being the ´Big Three´ of that time.

With Apocalypse Now, things were still a bit ´1960s-crazier´ back then as the Heart Of Darkness documentary clearly shows...
