Silly semantics alert, but I dont think ggg controlled the fight as much as alvarez' concessions to his own shitty stamina did. When the two actually exchanged alvarez probably got the better of more of them....except those exchanges punctuated long periods of alvarez circling around or lying on the ropes trying to do as little as possible because he knew if threw > 40 shots two rounds running he'd turn into a pumpkin

Not really. Ggg won rounds because he applied pressure but alvarez paces himself the same way every fight. His stamina blows and sucks and blows, hard.

 

Like Jeffy just said, I more saw it as as soon as Golovkin turned up the pressure, Alvarez looked a bit lost at how to deal with it. It was when Golovkin was less active that Alvarez was more active.

Contrary to you saying that Alvarez thrives on pressure fighters Hut Hut, I thought that the rounds that Golovkin applied the most pressure were his most successful by FAR, he basically shut Alvarez down and just had him in retreat mode.

 

7-5, 8-4 are reasonable to me

9-3 is a bit extreme, to me

6-6 I cannot see at all, there's no way Alvarez got six rounds

Both awful scorecards. I would say Byrd's was worse, or it was farther from my scorecard. I had Leonard-Hagler 6-6, so Guerra's 10-2 was 4 rounds away from mine. I had Golovkin up 7-4-1, so Byrd's 10-2 was 5 and a half rounds away from my card.

There were some close rounds, but you'd have to be pretty generous to Canelo to have it even. The last 3 rounds, which Canelo won on all 3 judges cards, were all close rounds.

Some of the scorecards Canelo has gotten over the years is just outrageous.

Another one that is up there among worst scorecards is the judge who had Paul Williams beating Sergio Martinez 119-110 in their first fight.

I honestly thought that 118-110 score was a mistake when I first heard it. I thought for SURE that had to be for Golovkin, even though I had it 9-3

 

If we start playing the which rounds were scored for Canelo, I doubt it will take too many to get to the draw or worse. Hell, we can probably get to the 118-110 card pretty quickly. As stated above and in the main thread, when you land the best shot(s) within a round, it's pretty common to get that round. Canelo landed his best shots far more often than GGG. GGG landed his 2nd tier shots far more often than Canelo and there were a lot more of them. Throw in jabs and it's easy to see why most of us think GGG deserved it, but Canelo's bigger shots make it a fight that might have seemed different at ringside.

Oh yeah, I say this as a guy who predicted Canelo doing better at the end of the fight, but picked GGG to clearly win. Both of these guys starch 160 lb Duran, by the way.

If agree he definitely lost the battle of the jabs tho and imo that shoulda won golovkin the fight. I just think a lot of rounds were a case of quality vs quantity....you could probably have made a reasonable case for canelo in 6 of them

 

Listening to it being announced, as someone who bet on golovkin, i figured that card would be for him. I guess I temporarily forget it was Byrds. But for someone to have such a card you'd figure it would be for golovkin based on how the fight played out

 

Canelo isn't getting the benefit of either his body punching or his accuracy. Golovkin took the punches well but he was getting hit with the better shots. Listen....I can see a case for GGG winning, especially because of the consistent jab and Canelo's lulls in action....I could even give GGG 8 rounds, but considering many of the rounds that I could score for GGG can also be scored for Canelo based on the more "meaty" punches I think it's ludicrous to cry robbery on a draw verdict
