Yeah, tactically, Golovkin definitely out thought Canelo. I honestly found the idea that Canelo was a better/smarter boxer than Golovkin comical, and that myth of Canelo needs to die as well.

Canelo doesn't have extremely low IQ like Khan, or Berto, yet at the same time, he's no boxing scientist either. He can't adjust to shit... he can only hope that his spurts and his paid off judges work.... which they do.

That may well have been the best punch of the round, but for me that didn't come close to negating being outlanded for 90% of the round prior to that.

And what about round 4? You said Canelo could arguably be 4-0, there is no way you could give that to Canelo. Golovkin landed far more and controlled the round.

Golovkin's a better fighter than Tszyu. Period. Their talent might be comparable.... Hell, I'd say that Tszyu was more naturally talented. But Golovkin has three big intangibles over Tszyu - a great chin, excellent stamina, and heart. Tszyu lacked all three.

Oh and one more thing I forgot about when writing that, is there is a certain awkwardness to Golovkin that most pressure fighters lack. Like an inate awkwardness - his strange, looping shots from weird angles, and just his slightly odd rhythm and timing too. It could be one of the reasons why no one has really had much success against him, and why he's undefeated.

Tszyu is an utter scrub compared to Golovkin, let's be real. A greasy little rat tailed scrub with no heart, and a nice counter right hand.

    Golovkin is in another league.

Tszyu's resume isn't the stuff of legends either. And although his groupies pretend like it never happened, he still got exposed at his peak against a 2nd tier fighter in Cool Vince. And we're not talking about some questionable decision. Philips beat the shit outta Tszyu then took him out.

There's no objective case to be made for Tszyu being better than Golovkin.

Golov has a much better chin than Tszyu also. And better stamina. And IMO, a higher ring IQ. Much higher ring IQ, actually.

Tszyu's ring IQ was overrated as shit.

I think higher of Tszyu than you do. He was an excellent fighter, but fell short of being a great one due to the intangibles he lacked that we already mentioned.

Tszyu ranks higher all time at junior welter than Golov does a middle, but that's deceiving because historically 160 is a FAAAAARRR deeper division than 140.

I could say that Golovkin could at least HANG with a Monzon, or Hagler, although he'd clearly lose to both.

A Monzon/Hagler level fighter would rape and murder Tszyu.

Tszyu had a decent chin, not granite but definitely above average.

I agree with stamina and heart though....he was a bit of a bully/frontrunner. When guys fought back against him he went all scrubby and quitty.

Yeah, Tszyu had a solid chin. But he was hurtable/droppable/stoppable.

Golov's chin is on a whole different level than Tszyu's.

It might. But it is a little convenient to use age as an 'excuse' for his last two performances while they clearly were the 2 best fighters he fought

Anyone that wants to hit ggg they do. That isn't exclusive to canelo. GGG wants to be hit and canelo's power gave GGG no cause to stop moving forward

Ah, ok. It looked like the score at the top didn't match the rounds because 12 is missing. Hut needs his second coffee

Tbf, the reddit score actually matches the power punches by round - alvarez outlanded ggg in the first three and last three rounds, ggg through the middle 6. Also, playing devils advocate further, I thought alvarez was rolling shots much more effectively than ggg so I think he was doing a bit better than punch stats suggest

Otoh, jabs exist and are a good punch to do

Do you still think Jacobs would beat Alvarez?

Exactly, and Gennady's is the best jab in the business. It basically won him both the Jacobs and Canelo fights.

Personally I score a good jab at least as highly as an average power punch (that doesn't do much damage or back the other guy up). Because it's an incredible tool in controlling the opponent, controlling distance, disrupting ryhthm etc. Golovkin's jab is hard too, almost like a power shot.

If Charlo has a dependable chin, I could see him beating Canelo.
