The easy pick is Marciano by stoppage but I think Norton's style and size would give him fits. Marciano wins a decision or late stoppage but goes through hell to do it.
I don't think the size difference matters, Marciano hit like a mule kick and norton wouldn't be able to take the punches forever and he will get hit.
I think he'd take the punches fine... Rocky was a dynamite puncher but he was a 187 pound dynamite puncher ... Norton got KOd by two of the hardest hitters ever and that weighed a lot more than Rocky ... I'm not counting the first Garcia fight against him as he was pretty inexperienced
How do you see it going? I thought Marciano's more compact punches would give him the edge. Norton's unorthodox style, bodypunching and uppercuts would make it fun though.
I think Norton would push him back, impose his size on him... I just don't think Marciano would be able to back him up or really hurt him
I think you put way too much importance on size. Size is important, yes, but to suggest that size overcomes power is silly. Louis was severely outsized by Carnera and that didn't stop him from pummeling the giant to the canvas. Same with Dempsey vs Willard. Marciano was a HARD puncher and Norton's chin was ok but nothing special. Rocky could have definitely hurt Norton.
Surprised most are picking marciano. NORTONwas much bigger and sfronger, and was more skillfull to boot. Sure, we can say norton had a bad cbin hence hell get koed by marciano, who was an explosive puncher, but, as cdogg said be was much smaller than guys like foreman and shavers, hence i dont think his punches wold have the same effect
Marciano was awesome but he was 187... anybody that thinks he hits like a Shavers or Foreman is out of their minds
Shavers was an absolute freak ... I don't think he's a good example I bet you anything Frazier hit a lot harder than Rocky
Based on what though? It seems to me that boxing fans see anyone over 200lbs as the same size whether they be 205 or 250...but as soon as someone is below the magical 200lb barrier, they are suddenly much less powerful. I think that's a little silly, don't you?
Shavers was putting down and hurting large men. Marciano was mostly fighting midgets. There's no way he punch as hard as shavers. Marciano probably punched as hard as Quarry, and Norton just beat him up and wasn't bothered by his punches And kenny was probably past it when he faced Shavers
Just to be clear...I have never said that Marciano hits as hard as Shavers. I shouldn't HAVE to make that clear but I know the way you cunts at fightbeat spin things for strawmen purposes
Agaisnt a guy as big as Norton, Marciano wouldn't be a particularly hard puncher. I would bet the house that Norton fuck him up without breaking much of a sweat. People are putting too much emphasis on reputation. If you look at a tape of both, it,s obvious Norton is a lot better, ad he's bigger to boot
yeah he's 3 inches and about 15 pounds less. Not to mention that the Walcott Marciano beat needed a special permission to get out of old age home
But yet Wlad was likely 30lbs heavier. If there was a manufactured weight class barrier between them...people on this forum would assume Wlad hit harder but shavers had better power "pound for pound".
Shavers is an almost comical outlier Probably 99% of the time the rule holds... Marciano probably hit as hard as Jerry Quarry or Floyd Patterson ... which is pretty hard but not "Ken Norton bombed out inside of 2 rounds" hard
Ok. Would Julian Jackson KO Light heavyweights such as Michael Moorer in your opinion? Surely Jackson is as "comical" an outlier as Shavers.
It's possible he could... but even Julian Jackson was like Harold Johnson compared to Shavers... Earnie's whole game was minuses... his chin was merely average, his stamina was poor, his skills perfunctory... he literally had a pretty good career in the deepest heavyweight era ever with nothing but cartoonish power
Shavers right hand was just criminal. The shots he landed on Ali, Holmes, Norton, etc. were just insane and he wasn't a really big heavyweight. The thing is if you survived the early fire he tended to run out of gas and was in danger of being stopped himself but damn he could punch.
