    33 to 31% - 2% lol, I'd call that approximately the same :D

If the guy had signficantly better offence and defence than Golovkin, it would have been more like 40 to 20.

  2. lol fair point.

When watching the fight it looked to be a more significant edge than that...but if that's what the stats say then I have to concede that point.

I think alvarez did a better job rolling shots, especially power shots, so I don't think the punch stats tell the full story

That's also a fair point, but I feel like Golovkin's edge in power compensated for that. Canelo definitely felt the effects more than vice versa, as evidenced by Golovkin happily walking right at Canelo for most of the fight, and Canelo basically getting on his bike after feeling Golovkin's hard, thudding shots.

  6. Canelo was on his bike from the beginning of the fight though. That's how he fights.

Nah, I mean he's always inactive that's true, but I've never seen him this negative or in constant retreat mode. Just watch him against Chavez Jr, he was coming forward the whole time, way less negative. Against Khan and "Liam Smith" too, he wasn't on his bike at all.

And the constant retreat started when Golovkin actually started fighting in the 4th, and the fat legged Ginger got belted by some hard shots.

do you suspect that if alvarez had thinner legs it would improve his stanima?

    Almost certainly.

His fat little ginger legs are a big hindrance.

If Canelo takes up taxi-cabbing in NYC then yeah maybe Danny will get the chance to "stop him".

Weight is weight. But I would sooner have big legs than a big useless upper body.

Weight is not weight at all. That's a ridiculous thing to say. Golovkin weighs less than Canelo, but he sure as fuck seemed like the bigger, stronger guy in there.

Plus pretty much every boxer would disagree with you. Slim legs and big shoulders is the classic boxer's physique. The only notable exceptions from elite fighters are Tyson and Pacquiao.

Joe Frazier also had great stamina despite being pear-shaped.

Another thing about Canelo's stamina issues, in addition to just genetics, is that he doesn't have that free-flowing, relaxed nature in his moments. It's like he puts everything into doing explosive moves, from his combination punching to a lot of defensive maneuvers, and seems to exert a lot of effort into these moves. It probably takes a toll.

Good point. He's kind of the opposite of Floyd in that regard.

    Good point.

That explains Oscar's stamina issues also. Oscar always looked stiff and forced out there. NEVER looked relaxed, even against overmatched guys.

In contrast, great stamina guys like Leonard, and Sanchez, always fought very loose, relaxed, and free flowing.

Then you got guys like Duran, Marciano, and Chavez, who were just born to FIGHT and to fight ALL NIGHT. Canelo could never have stamina like those three guys now matter hard he trains/tries.

Yes. Possibly by being very selective about when to throw.

  19. Pacquiao seemed to put everything into every punch and he never got tired. I'd rate Pacquiao's stamina over probably all of the guys listed in this thread.

yeah, that is an insane thing with pacquiao. YOu see him jumping all over tha place throwing bombs, and you think it's impossible this guy doesn't slow down in a few rounds, yet he always maintained the same pace. Stevenson is also a bit like that (to a lower degree obviously, as he slowed a bit in the first Fonfara fight)

Stevenson's pace and output remind me of Canelo. Total spurt fighter.

  22. Jesus of montreal

I don't see Stevenson as a spurt fighter. The guy has a very high workrate and is continuously throwing the left hand

JOM is delusional when it comes to Chickenson. Chickenson is DEFINITELY a spurt fighter with mediocre stamina, just like Canelo. And his chin is MUCH worse than Canelo's. Stevenson's only saving grace is that, unlike Canelo, he has TRUE one punch fight ending power.

you're tthe delusionned one if you think so. Pretty much every stats shows that he has a high work rate. You can criticize him for his lack of versatility and creativity (pretty much only throws a pawing jabs followed by the left bomb) but the guy is not a spurt fighter at all

It seems like Stevenson averages over 50 punches a round. That surprises, I must admit he's always appeared to be somewhat of a spurt fighter to me, not a guy with a high consistent workrate. He didn't seem to fight anything like Pacquiao.

I agree Pacquiao's stamina is incredible though, like JOM said his high energy style is one you'd imagine running out of steam quickly, but somehow he's exactly the same in the 12th round. Some of the best stamina in boxing history.

  27. Yeah he was incredible....that's why it was virtually impossible to win a war with him
