Gladiator or Braveheart

Discussion in 'Movies & Televison: Reviews, Discussions & Debate' started by Destruction and Mayhem, Sep 27, 2017.

  1. mi love both of these films. I love the swords and sandals genre, always have and always will.

    Which one was better?

(forget the historical inaccuracies of both and just judge them on their own merits)

There was a time when I thought a lot higher of these movies. They've lost their luster over the years, and become somewhat dated.

I actually think that Braveheart is a better movie, but I find Gladiator a lot more re-watchable, therefore I'll give it the edge. But it's basically a draw... for a one time viewing, it's Braveheart. For multitiple viewings, Gladiator. Better overall movie, probably Braveheart.

But fuck both of them! An old epic, like El Cid, takes a steaming hot shit on BOTH.

Same what X said. I like both, but "Gladiator" is more rewatchable.

Mel Gibson can be a fine filmmaker, but Ridley Scott's cinematography is what really sets it apart from "Braveheart". It's better eye-candy.

It also depends on what you're looking for. Gladiator is more of an action flick. Braveheart is more of a drama.

That's why I said, Braveheart is better for one viewing if you wanna watch the better overall movie.

But if you just wanna have fun, Gladiator was made more for the movie casual.

Braveheart, just for the line 'the trouble with scotland....is that it's full of scots!' which remains one of my faves ever

  6. I give Braveheart the edge, but love both films.

El CID is indeed a great film..as was The Vikings with Kirk Douglas and Tony Curtis.

Braveheart is overrated to me. I liked it but I own Gladiator on Blu Ray and not Braveheart.

Braveheart by a mile. I find Gladiator way overrated, over dialogued and just flat out boring. I don’t think I was able to ever watch Gladiator more than a couple times. Can’t believe people think it’s the more rewatchable film. Hell, I think Kingdom Of Heaven is better and more rewatchable than Gladiator. The fights in Gladiator are some of the worst of the genre too.

I do agree with you that Gladiator is overrated.

When it first came out, I was in my VERY early 20s, and I foolishly thought it was the best movie ever.

Fast forward to now, it's a flawed movie.

By far the best thing about Gladiator is Phoenix's performance. You take away that, and it's a borderline mediocre film.

Nope: El Cid was a very failed film as well as The Vikings.

Regarding this thread topic, Gladiator has more repeat viewing value mainly because Braveheart is so LOOOOONNGG and moves at snail pace.

The movie is racist against English people.

Nah. It's you who's delusional. El Cid is a top 3-5 all time epic, and it shits on Braveheart and Gladiator in every way possible. It's underrated as Hell because it lives in the shadow of the much more popular Ben Hur.

I have watch Braveheart many times....though I think it's an up and down movie...starts out good...get better then before the end it falls a bit.

Gladiator only seen it a few times...don't remember much. I like all the roman republic/empire movies/show(Love Spartacus and Hbo's ROME)
